Black vario panniers?

Has anyone painted the metal panels on their varios black? If so, does the panel come off easily, or did you mask up, and paint them while they are on the panniers? Any pics would be appreciated.

inside the panniers is i think is six screws,also take the three screws out that hold the lock mechanism out,its very easy,then the ali panel will come off,ten mins if that.

Has anyone got a photo of the panniers without the metal panels on, I have never liked the metal panels.

aren't the panniers on the 800 black ? maybe they could be used or adapted.

Is anodising better than powder coating? I'm thinking of doing the bare metal tank panels at the same time. Which would be harder wearing against stone chips etc?
