Blackwall Tunnel will be closed to southbound traffic for five weekends in January and February. The closures will take place across the weekends of 13 to 15 January, 20 to 22 January, 27 to 29 January, 10 to 12 February, and 24 to 26 February, starting at 12.01am on the Saturday morning and reopening by 5am on the Monday morning at the latest.

The closures will be in place to support works to the northbound carriageway on the northbound Blackwall Tunnel approach. The works, which are required to implement the road configuration for the new Silvertown Tunnel, will see new drainage and over-height vehicle gantries installed

Yay that means the ferry should be running at the weekends again, I shall book my return trip for Saturday morning, I'll be on my pushbike. I always lash my own bike down I don't want any of the deckhand monkeys damaging my paintwork. Anyone got a discount code?

I believe the nice Mr Khan is also introducing a £5.50 toll on the Blackwall Tunnel (both ways) also. To be fair, IIRC Mr Johnson proposed it.

So if someone from Kent area wants to drive into Central London via the tunnel (unlikely!) in an older car - that's £17.50 congestion, £12.50 ULEZ and £11 toll = £41 plus fuel.

London is the slowest of 357 cities in the world to drive through (TomTom report this week).

Yes, the Blackwall Tunnel is to be tolled, when the new (tolled) Silvertown tunnel comes into operation.

Dartford crossing will be a cheaper option coming from Kent, unless I want Docklands, Isle of Dogs or East east London I usually head for one of the bridges.

I saw that report the other day. Not surprised by London at #1.

I’m surprised by Rome at #12.
I’ve been back here in the last month and had to do a fair amount of driving around (albeit not at rush hours) and you can get everywhere fairly quick by car.
And I hated driving a car in Rome because of traffic when I lived there.

I guess those 10 less minutes in the data count a lot.

It’s a bit of a toss-up, whether I use the Blackwall Tunnel or ride out to the QE2 crossing, when going to / coming from the Chunnel. The ride across Tower Bridge and then along the Old Kent Road is a drag.

The Silvertown tunnel, when complete, won’t help me much. But hey, it’s new at least.

I always find Tooley Street, Jamaica Road A200 through Rotherhithe, Deptford and Greenwich and pick up the A2 from the A102M tunnel approach a lot faster in a truck let alone a motorcycle, especially during rush hour unless they raise the bridge at Deptford Creek of course.
