I asked for help with chosing a headset to be able to use my phoneon th ego...get a Scala G4 they said. I listened, and got one. Today I charged it up, while fitting the frame to the helmet...brilliant, all fits nicely and comfy.

I turned the thing on and paired it with the Zumo 550. It all paired up perfectly. I even got the radio to work, and tuned in to Radio 2 (so I can listen to Sally Traffic or Jamie Lee Grace and get the traffic info....)

So, what have I done wrong that the damn thing will not turn off. Press the mobile phone button for 3 seconds it says in the book......it doesn't turn it off. The radio doesn't come on anymore and the thingn has frozen in time, with a steady blue light and absolutely no life of anything else at all. I read the manual agai, to try and find a clue. It says charge it for 10 seconds and it will clear itself.

NO IT DAMN WELL DOESN'T.

Before I take a lump hammer to the device that I have never used in an attempt to assert sweet revenge and gain personal satisfaction.....anyone know what I should do?

Warranty? It is 1 day old. Taking it back is a mighty inconvenience, seeing as how I need to go to work just having done 2400 miles down to Italy and back through Holland. I was really looking forward to using it tomorrow on the bike. Oh well, consigned to dumbness once more until the wretched thing decides to play ball.

Please, anyone any ideas I can implement tonight?

Stubbs - they do, and I tried it to get a sweet American, female voice telling me they will get back as soon as they can if I leave my number and if I prefer I can go on their website (did that, the system refuses to recognise the unit, it IS switched on, the blue light says so, but the web updater just says to connect it and turn it on....)

I have tried the following:
Putting the charger on it to reset it.
Phoning customer services.
Linking to the website with the computer cord and going through the download procedure.

The ONLY thing I haven't tried is the lump hammer. It works with everything else...it would at least turn it off!

Joe - the latest software thing, that is what I tried to do on the website. It won't download or update the software because it doesn't recognise that the unit is wired in.

I managed to phone Pama this morning - we went through all sorts of options. It has locked itself up somehow and I am to send it back for them to replace. Can't argue with that, but this is before it ever got used.:blast A good start.
I am going that way tomorrow, so am taking it in for them to see about. Wonderful, a piece of kit that is duff straight out of the box.

Have you tried connecting it to the pc with the unit off? If yes, do you get the red charging light? If yes, to get it to talk to the pc you have to press the central top button together with the volume up button for at least 6 seconds. Keep the buttons pressed even when the blue light starts flashing - wait until the pc prompts to say there's a USB connection and the pc confirms they are communicating.

The above is only if the unit has turned off now. I had the opposite problem when sometimes the unit froze in the "off" state and wouldn't turn on. They have sent me a new unit from the US which so far is working OK.

Beemerman...I couldn't get it to turn off at all.

In the end I just left it to run out of sparks. When it was dead I charged it again and it seems ot be working fine now. The chaps at Scala have no idea why it locked up, but it went into a state of suspended animation, turned on but refusing to respond to any input whatsoever, including the reset function of attaching it to the charger.

Pleased with the results though. The phone connection is as clear as a bell. The radio suffers from a lot of hiss, but it might be that the RDS bit isn't turned on and so was losing signal. I will find out tomorrow, after I have read the book again to remember how to turn the radio on and set the RDS in motion.

Very pleased with what I have got working so far and the battery life is excellent - all day today with the radio on, bluetooth to the phone and Zumo, so no idea how long the actual life of the battery is.

sounds like you are unlucky getting a duffer
Get it swapped as these are good kit usually.
we have two and they are brilliant.
