I started a 35 mile trip on 3 bars, the trip went like this..

3, 2, 1, 2, 1+Light, 2+Light, 1+Light, 0+Light, 1+Light, 2, 1, 2..

Then I got home.. is there any explanation apart from good old B*W "Character"?
The first part of the trip was pretty smooth but the last was through the town.

Normally I keep the tank topped up so don't see the light, I wanted to run the petrol right down to take the tank off, i'd like to have some idea of how much petrol I've really got left should i miss a fill-up:rolleyes:

I don't think that I've ever seen two bars + light.

However, when the light does come on, I know that I've got enough for about 20-40 miles, depending on how hard I'm riding.

Mine varies quite a bit when I get down to that level, depending on the type of riding at the time. Hard braking, rapid acceleration, and sharp bends with plenty of lean cause it to go up and down like a tarts underwear...

That coincides with the last part of the trip through a village and then town.. I hoped the RID was more accurate than this:mad:

I would trust the light more than the fuel gauge.
The light has its own switch which makes a connection at a pre determined float level, which leaves around four ltr. in the tank.
The gauge works with a variable resistor in the tank and the RID displays bars depending on the voltage it receives.
Poor contact at the tank sender or any of the block conectors between sender and RID will end up with a lying RID.
If your gauge was was giving you spurious readings I would suspect a dodgy conection somewhere, usually the one under the black cover, at your right knee when sitting on the bike.
The gauge usually reads lower rather than higher, due to a drop in voltage, so how yours shows two bars with light on is stranger than a strange thing.

The gauge is on the right side in the tank, and there is no connection between the two lobes, unless you have an Adventure tank. So the level tend to yoyo (sic!) as petrol slush over from the left lobe to the right. There is also a flange on the right side to catch the petrol there.

Thanks for the info...

It definitely had 2 bars and the light on, when I refilled I only managed to get 19litres in:confused: , I think I'll start with the connector block and see if that sorts it, as I said I don't often get low but was surprised by the antics of the display & light when I did.

2 bars and yellow light

I've had the fuel light come on with 2 bars showing. But generally aim to refuel before the yellow light shows. When (if) the light comes on I flip into full-on panic mode and hunt down a petrol station slowly :D
I remember pushing my last bike all of 500m to a petrol station :(
