So I didnt fancy forking out for an official Autocom Bluetooth module for my Logic2.

I did some research and there wasnt much out there in the way of advice for using the Rider V5 without a normal helmet headset. I wanted to use the Autocom, this required a 3.5mm lead input and with no audio out on the TT I was struggling.

Having found the bluetooth profiles used by the TT I needed something that would support A2DP.

Did some searching and looked for something that was reasonably priced and looked like a proper job, this I failed at.

The only thing I could find was numerous listings and iterations of a cheapo Chinese 2ch receiver.

I thought for the measly sum of £9.99 I'd give one a go and see if it would even work.

eBay item number:281436391633, this was the one I purchased, it came in under 2 weeks and looks like this:

So, does it work? Yup! I was most surprised!

Is plenty loud, clear, no background noise or feedback type noises.

I will update once I have used it properly for a while!

Hopefully this helps someone, It may apply to any other GPS units that have no audio jack.

This is a great low cost option, which should work equally well with the Garmin products to receive music and instructions. However, in your description it says it is only a receiver, if so it cannot be used for telephone calls via Garmin Sat Navs, so it does not do the same job as a BTM-02 module.

I used something similar several years ago from Motorola, but it was both receiver and transmitter, with my Garmin/Autocom set up. I ended up buying the Autocom unit because it powered up automatically with the Autocom, whereas budget option had to be manually switched on each time (which was a pain as it was under the seat).

Bob, it is listed as a receiver I think but as it is designed for mobile phones it can transmit and receive, it is this function that allows it to function as a 'headset' with the TT.

Agreed that it could be a faff to turn on/off but as it will be in the tank bag with the Ipod I dont think it will be an issue for me. How much is one of the BTM-02 modules? I seem to remember it being more than I paid for 2nd hand logic unit

Yes, looking at it I think you are right as there is a telephone symbol on the device indicating it is for use with phones, I was just going off your description. The BTM-02 modules are just under £80 so it is a great saving if you can easily access it to switch it on every time.

Got a 2 up trip around Wales next weekend so will wait until after that to pass judgment, it may turn out to be crap!

I've just had a look at the eBay listing for more info.
It looks like the Mic is built into the unit, if there is no provision for an external Mic to be fitted then it looks to me like this can't be used for making telephone calls via the Autocom/Garmin (or the TomTom) without modification. The headphone plug is only 3 pole indicating that it is just for stereo audio reception, it would need to be a 4 pole jack to provide a microphone on the headset. However, I see there is an additional socket (i.e. two sockets) on the end of the device, the eBay listing isn't clear what these are for. One is obviously for the supplied headset, but what is the other one for?
If it is for an external mic, then a lead could probably be made up to combine both the headphone and external mic into one lead to connect to the appropriate socket on the Autocom.

Bob

EDIT: No it's not an external mic socket, according to the eBay listing it has a Double 3.5 audio interface.

It is a good punt, and you're quids in if it works to your satisfaction!

I will have a play around with a Mic to check. It was never my intention to use it for a phone but will check for others that may want it

Not checked the mic yet but used the unit for 2 days solid riding (before breaking down) with the tomtom and autocom logic. Faultless and not showing any signs of running out of power.

Thumbs up so far!

Just a little update:

Used this little device on our 2 week round Europe in August. I cant believe how long it lasted, 9 days of use for about 8 hours a day before it started an intermittent beep to tell me it was dying... its so bloody tiny the battery cant have much more capacity that a watch battery!

So yeah a crystal clear £9.99 alternative to an autocom bluetooth module.

Only thing that would annoy some people is the fact you have to plug it into a 3.5mm cable every time you want to use it and then remember to turn it off afterwards. This is something I'm willing to put up with for that price.

i too use one of these. to it i have in ear speakers ( i phone ones) connected via the socket. This is then blue toothed to my Nav. It listens to the instructions , I can play music form the nav to .i love it well worth £10.00
