Hi. I have a GS 2008, I currently have vario panniers. I want to fit the BMW aluminium panniers usually found on GSA or Ard luggage.

My question is, do both types of box use the same rack? I.e. a Touratech or BMW rack?
Thanks.

I've recently started using a Givi Trekker top case (plastic type). It's great to have that bit of extra space for stuff. It also loses a couple of kg in afterthought add-on mounting rack.
The tyre to side case frame clearance on right is 115mm. Needed to clear the final drive on full bump.
115mm is enough space on the LHS to fit a 100mm wide oval silencer can and use a full size case. You would need a specially made link pipe but they are easy to get made up.
Then use some Givi aluminium side cases with purpose made frames.
So much of the bike is afterthought design. If I doing it again the above is what I would do.

The Adventure BMW panniers use a unique frame - but you could pick that up on Ebay.

The Ard Cases use the "Touratech" frames, which are also used for many of the aftermarket boxes (Metalmule included). BUT - if you are thinking about 2nd hand Ardcases- you may need to adjust one or more of the pucks - slightly (nothing major).
