Washed my GSA today (the first time in 6 months :blast) and found a spot of corrosion on the rear hub

It's only done 51000 miles ............... who do I complain to? :augie

Looks like just cause to reject the crappy thing altogether and get your money back if I were you, not fit for purpose etc etc etc......

Is that a puddle of water I can see by that bolt head?
You need one of those nice bike drier things :thumb

I've got one of them 1200cc bike drier thingies ......... It's a darn site drier now after a 90mph blast along the M4 :thumby:

That's normally caused by the owner not being careful enough when topping up the antifreeze, it's what the dealer said.:augie

Clearly the bike dryer you are using is too hot and powerful. Should be banned by the EU.

1st time in 6 months you've washed it & 51000 miles  :comfort yes sir new set of wheels en route from Germany :dabone

You're all a bunch of callous bastards ...... can't you see I'm hurting here? :tears

Ha ha ha! That's a lot of miles in 6 months. You would be probably better off warding degradation with something like a Muc Off Bike Spray, tends to keep the moisture out when riding wet. But it does seem from many quarters that the new GSW's are definitely down on quality.

Erm......

That's not corrosion, that's a chip, either wheel brace or stone chip. Hammerite Smoothrite silver is a decent match. spray a bit in the cap and blob it on with a wee artists brush.

Those above are right, you shouldn't encourage corrosion by cleaning so often.

It seems to be down to the dealer's sense of fair play. Previous GSA suffered similar corrosion to the FD housing in the first year and SLM replaced the housing. Current GSA has similar corrosion to the engine block and gearbox with microscopic mileage. BMW Redhill (now closed) were completely disinterested. Salesman at Redhill (ex-SLM) told me that BMW deny that there is any problem with the (water-based) paint and blame the English climate but he told me that the paint on the GSA LC is much thicker - very obvious on the edges and corners. I also saw another GSA of the same age as mine but with sensible mileage where the rocker covers looked like part-eaten Aero bars. Again BMW's view was that it was nothing to do with them. Friend has a K1300S which has flaky paint on the FD housing and no interest at all from BMW.
