Is there a thread about this or does anyone know what I may be doing wrong? I have purchased one of Bms chargers when I bought my 1200 last month and decided to try it today as I wont be riding for a couple of weeks. 1/ Plugged unit into bike socket and turned power on.
2/ All led's illuminate as per instructions for 2 seconds then go out leaving power led on.
3/ Five or six seconds later the 'error' led comes on.
Repeated this five or six times and always the same. Is it me or is the charger kaput. Instructions are shite.
I've been using a 3 year old "BMW Advanced Battery Charger" on my GS for nearly a year. I bought it when I had an 1150 RT, and paid a bit extra for the "Advanced" charger in case I ever had a gel battery. When I bought the GS, the dealer said I'd have to buy the new GS charger for $125, but the one I had came with leads to run it straight to the battery, which I did. It appears to work perfectly, although the longest the bike has sat is maybe two weeks.
I've bought several of these little float chargers the past few years, and use them on my 1975 BMW, my old Ford utility tractor, and two Deere mowers.
They work great. Don't know why I bought the BMW charger for the RT, other than figuring an $80 BMW charger had to be better than a $7 Harbor Freight charger.
Littleyellowsei, do you mean that the charger will not work through the socket if as I do, you have autocom fitted. My autocom is hard wired to the bike but I haven't got a clue how.
I have just checked Nippy normans and if it helps the battery charger I am talking about is for sale through them on the 1200GS section although its five quid cheaper! I take it thats the BMW charger?
anyone interested, I have purchased an optimate accessory socket with the ring ends which I have bolted to some alligator clips. I have clamped these to the terminals, turned it on and it is working a treat, so it would appear that you are right littleyellowsei its the autocom.
