I just posted in another thread how I had to cancel my course this month. :spitfire

The good news I got booked in again for mid-May.

The bad news is the Abercrave Inn has no rooms available at that time.

Any recommendations for accomodation for the off-road course then?

Not sure if I am arriving in a car or on bike...I might take off around Wales afterwards on the bike...

I Stayed at the Dairy Farm not that far away. great Breakfast and comfortable. The Meal is at the Abercave ,not to far to get to .You may find others staying there .BMW off rad skills have the address /tel no .

Go to the castle. The owner is a bit nutty but the stay was a hoot!
Ask for the guided tour of the old theatre too. Spooky as @@@@!!!!

Whatever you do DONT use the Briton, a few miles up the road from the Abercrave!

Craig Y Nos?

Having stayed there I *know* that's welsh for 'Fawlty Towers':D As a B+B it's ok but breakfast doesn't start 'till 8 so you'll have to hoover the full welsh brekky unless you like being late. Clean and quiet though (so long as you stay in the main part of the house and not the stables)

Avoid the 'Ancient Britain' though - horror stories abound!

I stayed at the Copper Beech last year, just a short walk from the Abercrave.

Very nice, friendly people and excellent food.

I intend staying there again, when I get the chance.

A bit further away is Tylegarw (pron Till-e-garoo). A lovely place, great landlady, A1 breakfast, and Steve her husband might be up for taking you out on some cracking welsh roads afterwards. I stayed there when my sister-in-law did the offroad course, and we had a fabulous 270 mile tour of the best welsh roads on the Sunday.

It is where W of BMW put their DAS trainees.

Are these views of the Ancient Briton recent, or based on the past or possibly rumour? I stayed their last year in a big newly refurbished room, excellent. Beer very good, breakfast very good. Sometimes dont do evening food but you will probably want to go to (10 mins walk) the over-rated over-priced Abercrave or the better for food IMO Copper Beach.
When I was there there were comments about the Copper Beach accom being rather poor, and a few moans about the Abercrave too.
Nowhere is perfect but I wasnt looking for a luxury holiday, TBH.

I did the Tredegar Arms, about 10 mins from the course centre and spot on.

Great B&B. Stan couldn't have been more helpful. Breakfast fantastic with organic and locally sourced food and home made bread:thumb:thumb:thumb

They have a website.

Also it's on the outskirts of Ystradgynlis.

What's wrong with the Ancient Briton stayed there twice last year rooms are good they now have a new chef and the best selection of beer in the area what more do you want?

I was booked into the Abercrave for a couple of months - when we got there our booking had been changed from the cottage to a couple of other rooms on either side of the road. Why? Charlie Boorman had arrived and took precedence. Probably fair enough - he was very amiable and has probably paid the Abercrave pension fund up several times over. Anyway...sorry can't help with alternatives.

How do you load up your own avatar pics btw?

HI

I stayed at Pen Pentre, whe i did my course last year. Fantastic hosts, spotless rooms and some really nice touches (fresh milk for yoru brew etc), especially for the money.

Arrived late and they were happy for me to stink out their dining room and dirty their crockery with my chinese take out.

Is a drive to the Abercrave fo rthe team dinner, but as course is fairly knackering, you will not want to drink load anyway.

Have heard mixed reviews of the Copper beach, but convenient for the meal as next door.

World of BMW usully have a list of recommdended accommodation so worth a call. They update it as well based on feedback given of the forms at the end of the course.

Would consider DRIVING there tpp. If you have a long drive home you will be pretty tired when you finish

Have a great time:beerjug:

DONT use the New Swann "Hotel" - actually a pub, with no off-street parking and VERY loud music most nights. My room floor was actually vibrating when I got back to my room on Friday night....:blast

Then again, the bins were being emptied at just after 5am on Friday morning, so I slept from about midnight until 6am when the local traffic started...

on the upside, the bar staff were cute :peach: and the landlord was a nice chap - good breakfast too.
