Bahnstormers have always done mine for free, dam fine dealership. As for GSRichie being rude I think he's just being truthful.

Hi John,

now that is a bit too much, all I did is post my opinion and what happened to me, why should I lie about it? and other people had the same experience judjing on the posts... not sure what I would get out of it? nice that the forum is backing the Dealers and not the riders.... good one.

Do ya know it's threads like this that reinforce why I will not be renewing my subscription to this site. A guy comes on here to provide his own opinion of a dealer only to be bombarded by some fu*cking tool who is just looking for an argument. Yeah great support there guys.

hear hear, absolutely spot on..........

oh, just noticed, I've already give up subscribing :augie

The thing is, any dealer of any product is going to give you the official line on how the job should be done and how much it is going to cost you.
No-one is going to tell you you can get it done cheaper down the road or you can do it yourself for next-to-nothing, not if they wish to stay in business.
I can understand you feel put out but they have to make a living and you got your problem fixed so what's the problem? :nenau

This is the beauty of forums like this - a little bit of research before handing over your hard-earned will pay off. £12 well spent, I would think.

If you read my post it's nothing to do with what you felt about the dealer, it was about the "all bikers should stick together" thoughts of another poster.

However, as has been posted, if the person who dealt with you had been told, and believed, that they had to use a special tool etc, were they lying? I suspect you wouldn't have minded if they'd suggested there was another way to do it, but if they didn't know about it :nenau

Hi John,
I think you got it right... meaby they should work at Tesco not BMW....as the £70 an hour labour would suggest that these people should know what they are doing, not that Tesco would give them a job.

As from my 1st post, ( and is my opinion and I do not rappresent any groups , minorites, religiuos or governament groups ) for me the dealer in question is pour for 2 reason:

A the people that work there do not know what they are talking about
B They made a job bigger that it should be to get more money out of me

the only reason why I posted this is to advise other riders to be carefull when going to this dealer, if you don't agree or don't want to lissen then up to you....bored of having to justify myself when trying to help others, ciao

It is fair, in any business, to charge, not only for 'what you do' but also for 'what you know.'

I'll put it to you, that this is NOT a n10 minute job

It would take me 10 minutes to read and comprehend those instructions and probably ,guessing, at least 30 minutes to 'do the job'

I am defending those that have a riight to make a living and those that have big overheads:D

I got some panniers of e-bay and collected them ,then dropped into my local dealer and enquired about the tumblers for recoding the locks .To my suprise the gave me a selection for nowt (yes free ) following the instuctions of adv rider it took me less than 10 mins to do both panniers and that included having a brew only 2 tumblers needed changing .I was that impressed with the dealers I sent back the unused tumblers with a polite thank you note .
A big thumbs up to Southport Superbikes :thumb2:thumb2:thumb2:thumb2

Cheers C'n'C

A the people that work there do not know what they are talking about

They do, but they know the 'official BMW' way of doing things....remember that most 'mechanics' now are actually 'fitters' rather than proper mechanics....they are taught to do every job in a particular way.

If they simply didn't know the quick way of doing the job, then they weren't intentionally lying to you.

B They made a job bigger that it should be to get more money out of me

Perhaps not....again, if they didn't know, or they were merely following their prescribed manual fix process for the job, then they weren't being dishonest as you imply, merely not as knowledgeable as some mechanics and many independents.

Steptoe for example, can do many jobs in his own way, a lot faster than the BMW book time for the same job....his techniques work, but I've no doubt some of them would make an official BMW trainer wince slightly.....they will do any given job according to their manuals and training, and charge accordingly, whilst Steptoe, Rudimoto and so on do the job according to the job in front of them, using different techniques and shortcuts, and charge accordingly as well.

again this is my opinion, they are disonest and will not have my business again.... but thank you for your explenation, but I do not share your view as we are not talking about re-building an engine but re-keying a lock, if my doctor decided to cut my leg off when all I needed was some fisio I would not be too happy, and I would not exuse him as @ he did not know...@

You should be happy to pay whatever the Dealer asks. Your BMW Motorcycle should only be worked on by Certified BMW Technicians! :rob :D

I would be pissed too, if I was told the "special tool" BS line too. But I can see being billed for at least 30 minutes or more to have the lock re-keyed.

My Dealer tells me to do as much work on my Bikes as I feel comfortable doing. He also says if I don't know how to do things like setting the values, bring the Bike in.

Southport Superbikes recoded two secondhand side panniers free of charge for me when I had them service my bike(a few years back now)
