Hi all,
I had some time to kill this evening, so I had a play on Photoshop to see what a G-Series adventure touring bike might look like. The image below is based on a G 650 XChallenge (for the best chassis), but with the seat, radiator shrouds, 'tank' and tail taken from the XCountry (for added comfort and a lower seat) and a screen and pannier pinched from a 1200 Adventure.
As I was passing Park Lane the other day, I stopped by and got the seats off both to confirm whether something like this is even possible and can report that it would at least appear so. For instance, the lugs that hold the XCountry seat in place are also on the frame of the XChallenge (but unused). The only differences appear to be in the routing of the brake lines and the location (under the seats) of the small fuse box, but I reckon this could be sorted.
I guess a comfy aftermarket seat on the standard XChallenge would be more simple and much much cheaper, as well as allowing Touratech's larger tank to be used if range was an issue, but I was curious if a parts exchange would be feasible.
I'm also curious as to whether the wheels are interchangeable, especially regarding the XMoto wheels when road riding is on the cards.
Anyway, I thought I'd share the idea/pic and see if anyone else was having similar thoughts or can see any problems with this.
At this stage, I'm looking to buy something like this by Spring '08, by which time I'm hoping there might be some new BMW's (e.g. F800GS) and KTMs (690 Enduro/Adventure) to consider...
