Anyone using the current generation of full face BMW helmets made by Schubert?I came across one in Rainbow at a reasonable price (£255) which has a good colour scheme, fits well, and feels comfortable. Staff describe the helmets as 'quiet'.

Any observations welcome. I'm keen to replace my current noisyish flip up.

I've been using one of the "Sport Integral" helmets for the last 3 years (until last month, when I finally decided to go for a flip-front), and can give you my comments as follows:

Plus points:

1. Very quiet, undoubtedly the quietest helmet I've ever used.
2. Good visibility.
3. Relatively light weight.

Minus points:

1. Worst helmet I've ever used in the rain. Rain leaks through the top of the visor seal and runs down the inside of the visor (Had a total of 3 helmets - they all do that!)
2. The anti-fog coating on the inside of the visor is very sensitive and can come off through normal cleaning.
3. Replacement visors are expensive.

If you're looking for something comfortable and quiet, and don't ride when it's wet, then it's an excellent helmet. I've heard that BMW are just about to replace the "Sport Integral", which is why all dealers have them on offer at the moment.

Dave,

Many thanks for your post. It was going so well till it rained. Just out of interest what was your flip up of choice?

Mine was the System 5, I can't recommend it.

Rain comes through the chin vent if it is open above about 50mph, it also seeps down the inside of the visor from the "V" shape in the top edge, one of the lining press studs has failed (but I do route my coms cables through at that point), the visor mists up very quickly and saturates the anti-mist unless you are using the optional extra £50+ "double glazed" visor which is actually nothing more than a pinlock set-up. Re that, the pins seem very fragile, mine have broken twice and I have replaced them this time with two piece Shoei ones which seem to be a bit less brittle.

Lastly when you take it off your hair will have a temporary "wave" molded into it by the shape of the interior which is designed to improve cooling.
