Hi All,

Just wanted to let you know that I have BMW insurance, by far the best quote for the GS but on recent purchase of a DR350 for off road they would not insure it as it isn't a BMW.

Best I got was 3rd party only for 113gbp Breakdown and Legal (for the vet fees for the ramblers dogs that I have to remove from my spokes).
Maybe something to think about...

Cheers

They seem to blow hot & cold over this. When I first insured with them (3yrs ago) they'd not touch a second bike unless it was a BMW. However, I'm sure I've read posts since which said that this policy had changed.

Might be worth pressing the point and asking them to contact their underwriters & see if they're willing to make an exception...

I was certainly using BMW insurance and insuring a non-BMW second bike through the scheme. But a couple of years ago, BMW changed their insurance supplier (to Churchill?? or was it from Churchill??). Anyway, the new provider apparently can't be arsed to cover non-BMW second bikes, so they have lost all of my business and a few others too, no doubt!

To make matters worse, the BMW Travel Insurance scheme now won't cover your medical costs if you're injured riding a motorcycle, even if it's a BMW. So they have lost that business too!

I hope that the Munich mandarins that have ordered the removal of the BMW logo from this site read this and start to understand that it's actually them that are fecking up the brand, not this bulletin board!!

It looks like they might be continuing to insure other makes under renewals but not new business. I know that they wouldn't cover my VFR when I got the 1200 at Christmas.

I got a quote from them on Thursday but didn't ask about a second bike. My present policy is with Avis - Devitt - NIG and I have two bikes on that no problem. BMW insurance is also via Devitt - NIG so I don't see how there can be an issue covering other makes.

local dealer should give you a quote

Local Dealer...

I live in Cyprus at the moment! So local dealer is no good at all!!
I plan to bring my bike to the UK in 2 weeks time so I require UK insurance.

I see that BMW Insurance is now provided by UK Insurance Ltd. This is the same company that offers a range of 'own-brand' insurance schemes, including that offered by tesco.

It might be worth comparing prices against the tesco website (possibly car insurance only).

My bike's company owned and so I had real problems getting cover.

My previous bike was with the Ducati scheme and, bugger me, they will cover the R1200GS and are cheaper than anyone else who is willing to quote for a company bike!

Have found them really helpful. Tel 08704 106060 if it helps at all.
