The Federal Motor Transport Authority in Germany (similar to VOSA in the UK) has started an investigation. It's about the new BMW Motorrad Integral-ABS from Continental Teves. There have been some reports about a defect braking hose which is full metal and directly connected to the ABS-unit on BMW R1200GS motorcycles equipped with the Conti System.

An article in German language about the investigation is available here:

Rückruf des BMW Motorrad Integral-ABS von Continental Teves zu erwarten?

BTW: A list of all media reports on the old Integral ABS from FTE is available here

Did you know the pads wear out if you use them. Its shocking. There should be a recall. :)

Here we go again. :aidan

Its shocking.

The case is about a rider that suddenly had no brakes at all due to the defect on the braking hose. He had a nearby accident due to the total brake failure. The case is about the report that the fault is known in at least three cases.

Therefore threre might be a RAPEX notification and a recall in the future.

And another thing, I went to my dealers this weekend with a bike thats only six months old and the tyres had worn out :thedummy
Why do we put up with this build quality:nenau ???

BTW: There is another investigation by the NHTSA / ODI

ODI IS AWARE OF ALLEGED SUBJECT VEHICLE FIRE-EVENTS APPARENTLY DUE TO A MELTED OIL LEVEL SIGHT ¿GLASS¿ DURING PERIODSOF EXTENDED ENGINE IDLING. OIL DRAINS FROM THE ENGINE CRANKCASE, THROUGH THE MELTED SIGHT GLASS. IT THEN COATS THE EXHAUSTSYSTEM (INCLUDING THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER) AND IGNITES. THIS SCENERIO IS ALSO DESCRIBED IN A (CONFIDENTIAL) NUMBER OF FIELDREPORTS PROVIDED TO NHTSA BY BMW PURSUANT TO THE EWR REQUIREMENTS. TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THESE ALLEGATIONS WE HAVE OPENED THISPE.

PE-Number is PE07031 and was opened on 06/21/07 (Article). There is at least one case documented in Germany on a famous internet forum.

It does sound somehow stupid to idle the bike for 20 minutes...

What is your point exactly ????

Point is that there was a lot of fun made about the brake failure investigation. Therefore I thought it's about havin fun. And I found the investigation of the NHTSA which was started one month ago.

Which might be fun because how stupid can someone be to idle 20 minutes and then complaing about the bike burning?
