Just transferred all my routes & waypoints for the holiday from the PC to my Nav III.....and instead of the user defined waypoints adding to the existing list already in the NavIII (as 'My Locations' / Favourites) the waypoints are not listed anywhere.

However when I spell out the name of each waypoint in the search each waypoint is there.....is this a feature of NavIII or is there something I've not done correctly.........?

I've searched t'internet & studied the manuals......can't find anything about this......

Anybody have any ideas........?

Cheers

Just a thought - is your NavIII only showing 'Favourites near me' - in which case it probably won't show the far-flung ones that you entered for your hols? I had a similar "problem" with my Quest1.

I's a setup issue. You can setup the GPS to either sort the waypoints in order of distance to it, or in alphabethical order.

Tomcat has identified the issue exactly.

All the waypoints are there - it's just that the GPSR will not, by default, display waypoints that are more than about 200 miles away from the present position of the user.

It's a bit confusing at first, because the older model GPSRs (e.g. SP III) would display every waypoint in memory by default. Since the introduction of the 26xx series, the GPSRs will (by default) filter the waypoint display to those within 200 miles of you. You can find and call up the far-off waypoints by pressing the 'near' button on the waypoint screen, and specifying that you want to move the center of the 200 mile search radius to another location. Best to read the manual for full details.

A quick way to re-assure yourself that all your waypoints are, in fact, loaded onto the GPSR is to just connect the GPSR to a computer, open a blank MapSource page, and choose 'upload waypoints'. You will then see a complete list of everything that is stored on the GPSR.

...just seems a retrograde step to me...

Hi Dutch:

If you are coming from an earlier model of Garmin GPSR (e.g. SP III or similar vintage), a lot of the changes made in the 27xx and 28xx user interface will seem a bit strange at first. However, after you have used the GPSR for a while, the changes make sense, because they simplify a lot of the clutter that used to be present.

For example, if you have a lot of waypoints in memory (as you would when preparing for a long trip), having only those within 200 miles displayed when you call up an alphabetical listing really speeds up the process of finding the ones you want, 99% of the time. The other 1% of the time - you have to move the center of the search radius.

FWIW, I had the very same complaint about the unit when I first got it. Now, though, I appreciate the feature.
