Hope I've posted this in the right section...

Right, I've got a BMW Motorrad Navigator II from it's previous owner.

I've got his Garmin log in details (user name & password), but the log in on the Garmin site doesn't accept the info...

Am I logging in on the right page..?

https://my.garmin.com/mygarmin/customers/myGarminHome.faces

Or is there a special page for the BMW units..?

I really don't know and I'm getting confused :tears

Any help would be much appreciated :thumb2

Set yourself up in My Garmin (part of the Garmin website).

Register the device in your name.

Any problems, call Garmin, number on Garmin website. They won't bite.

silly question but worth asking .. just in case :augie

has it already been registered by previous owner ?.

do you have or get from previous owner card registration serial number ? on bright coloured paper (eg orange or yellow) :blast

Inform Garmin you're new owner and ask them to register to you

No, that's exactly the right question...

It was previously registered with Garmin.

The Log In provided by the previous owner doesn't work.

When I log in with that info. I get a message:-

'The username/password combination is not valid'

I've mailed Garmin a few times; no response as yet :augie

I'm hoping for a conversation with the previous owner :thumb2

Call them .. as Wapping says ' they won't bite'

Suggest you give Product Support team a call 0808 2380000 (Free Phone) and option 2 :augie and explain, give them any references so they can identify it

Will do, thanks for the help :thumb2

I would forget about the previous owner, even if he can be bothered to find the card - and assuming he hadn't simply pinched the unit and sold it on. I would also forget about emailing Garmin.

Garmin (UK) are very helpful on the phone.

There is no facility in My Garmin to delete a unit that you sell, or at least there never was. So, Garmin do everything and will no doubt register your Nav II very quickly.

He's a top bloke and wouldn't dream of doing anything dodgy :rob

The previous owner may be asked to verify that the unit has been sold. I got such an email from Garmin having sold my Quest on eBay recently. Asked me to confirm the name of the buyer and was I happy to de-register the unit from my account.

Glad to say this is now resolved...

I've registered it and an update DVD (*free) is in the post!

Thanks for all the help, much appreciated :thumb2

With a BMW Navigator your fun may just be beginning

There have been issues reported here about Garmin sending out the generic Garmin City Navigator updates and these not installing to the GPS. Apparently the specific BMW update disk is required.

Aaaah....:augie :(

Having used this Navigator II for a while now I'm getting baffled by some of the routing decisions, many of which seem truly bizarre compared to my TomTom 530 that I use in the car. The update disc hasn't arrived from Garmin yet (maybe this'll go some way to cure thing problem?), but it does seem strange... I normally have it set on 'Quickest Route' rather than shortest route, but heading down from Edale to Matlock this morning it kept asking me to leave the A6 and go off on minor roads, which I didn't

I remember that it has a choice of:

(a) Quickest route

(b) Shortest route

Do I remember that it has a further menu of choices giving:

Avoid / favour motorways, main roads, minor roads, tracks?

If it does and you have it set to 'Quickest route favouring minor roads', it will route you (quite correctly) off the main road and down the minor roads in the quickest way it can.

Your're right!

The default setting is to favor minor roads most, then medium roads and major roads the least...

So that seems to explain that :thumb2

Many thanks (again!) - This Forum really is great :JB
