I have a two month old Nav II plus, which replaced the one stolen with my last GS........

It's worked faultlessly since I had it........until today........

The 2Gig CF card was pre-loaded with maps when I got it.....and when I switched it on today I got the 'map reading error' message on the GPS......

Plugged the CF card into my PC and there are no maps on it........

What would cause the maps to self erase.......?

Cheers

Nothing.

Perhaps try removing the CF card and re-seating it.

Thanks Michael.......

Still no maps.......

Tried reloading maps via CF USB card reader...card refused to load....tried via the USB/GPS cable, with CF card inserted in GPS......still nothing........

Supplying dealer replacing whole thing tomorrow.......but it would still be good to know what caused it......previous NavII worked perfectly for 18 months or so.....

Cheers

I think John is on the right track with his suggestion - considering all the work you did, it might just be a problem with the CF media, rather than the GPSR itself.

Did you try all 3 cards with the CF USB reader? If so, its unlikely that both the Navigator and reader would be faulty so the problem must be at the computer end. Mapsource perhaps? But that wouldn't explain why the maps disappeared originally unless the original card was faulty AND there is a problem with Mapsource. AAAAAArghhh.

I'll get my coat.

Just a thought this, but wasn't there a previous thread about a temporary license. I seem to remember someone on here, annoyed that their system stopped working after a set time (you mention 2 months) and that his system could have packed up when he was away on holiday - with no access to a computer.

I can't do a search at the moment, but I do remember it was about a month or so before Lahinch.

Thanks Paul......I should have been clearer.......

The other two cards successfully took Mapsets and loaded into the GPS correctly......seems like the 2GB card has died...........?

Ah-ha - that explains it, then. You can format CF media, the same way you would format a floppy disk, but if you are able to return it to your selling dealer and get a new CF card, so much the better.

Okay.......I formatted the 2 gig CF card and then reloaded the entire European mapset......now works perfectly again......

My continuing query is why did the card suddenly dump the entire contents, whilst the GPS was asleep on the bike......?

BTW, it's powered via the BMW cable which is switched via the ignition.....

Cheers
