Heiner Faust, Sales and Marketing VP, has stated that April '13 was the best ever sales for BMW Motorrad (worldwide) in its 90 yr history.
Sales of the new GS have been a whopping 10,883 units up to end April '13 out of a total 39,319 bikes and scooters.
No wonder there have been some delivery delays!

(Apologies, the title should have been 'to end April' not '1st qtr')

That's what happens when they get a bike sooooo right straight from the launch.

No faffing about field/beta testing with stupid little niggles... unlike the previous models

Well done BMW :thumby:

With respect, (and I'm not an LC knocker as I expect to own one at some point), it takes a lot longer than a month or two for the "niggles" to become known. I'm sure that was the case for the FD's, ring antenna, FPC for the older 1200GS. I hope the new LC doesn't suffer any major bugs, but it takes a quantity of bikes sold and mileage under their belts before the real situation can be judged.

The 1200GS was plagued with issues right from launch though, with many owners complaining on here (how quick some forget/don't want to remember).

On the other hand The new Liquid Cooled one has had nothing but praise from all who have handed the cash over.

I agree it is early doors, but first impressions are a lot better with this one than the previous one.
I will gladly stand corrected if they start falling to bits

I would have to bow to superior knowledge on when the gremlins were first exposed on the original 1200GS as I only came into GS ownership in 2009 when I bought my '08. I just would have thought it would take several months before the issues with the FD had started to become apparent. Its easy with hindsight of course. The new engine/clutch/gearbox/drivetrain reliability is what I'm particularly interested in for my own decision making and I think that can't be judged without hundreds of bikes racking up some reasonable mileage. My own crown wheel bearing failed after 18K miles - there can't be many LC's anywhere near that mileage yet.

It's a great bike :D torque, power, handling, and fuel efficiency better than any previous GS - looks are subjective, time will tell if it is a reliable as the older bikes.

Yeah well you would expect figures like that when a new model comes out wouldnt you ? Wait a few months and id bet the sales figures will drop off a fair bit........................Simples.:blagblah

I hear you, Delboy.

What impresses me, though, is that this is the best launch ever (from a sales perspective) for BMW Motorrad. That includes the TC GS with the Charlie/Ewan effect etc.
