I'm trying to plan a route from Leatherhead to Cheltenham using a combination of motorways and A roads. What I want to do is use the following
M25, M40, A355, A40, A436. However I cannot for the life of me get the Nav III to do what I want. It's either all motorways or all A roads. Can anyone point me in the right direction please>

i'm apple - so never actually done this - but i think you have to do it on the PC (plan the route on your computer) then up load it to the nav 111...... (if you want to pick specific roads you want to use that are a mix of major, medium, small roads....)

What you need to do is create via points on the stretches of road that you want the GPS follow. Be wary of dual carriageways and having the via point on the wrong side of the road.

I had the same problem... and many ideas came forth on here.

Eventually sorted by going to 'edit' > 'preferences' > 'routing... and then sliding the slider for 'Prefer Minor Roads.... Prefer Highways' to the mid position.

Thanks Mike, but how did you do that?

I just open Mapsource, use the route tool and "find" features. Once I have the start and end points, allow Mapsource to select the route.

Have a look at the route and if it's not the one I want, use the edit and undo.

Then use the route tool again and manually select the route but and this is the important bit, always place your pointer on the road well past any junctions.

If you notice a strange bit of routing, it's because you have selected a point that might be on the wrong side of a dual carriageway and Mapsource will obviously select a route that takes you via that point.

Don't worry about selecting route points near anything, they are not like Waypoints. In fact the further away from junctions and places the better.

If you select a point too far ahead, you may find the route still diverts away from your chosen route because of the preferences set.

Others may use different methods but this is simple enough for me.
