Just loaded V8 ( or will have when 100Hrs has been processed!!)

Does anybody know if there is any conflict with the actual BMW Unit version of software? This is the stuff that you connect the GPS/Computer to Garmin website and it updates the unit firmware operating software. Is it safe to do this or does it upset BMW 'specifics'?
I seem to remember something to do with this that said dont do it.

Further Help BMW Nav II

I have updated PC with V* all looks ok and it says it is unlocked. ( I did pay money).
Then spent for ever loading to 2GB F/C. Then inserted in unit. It then says some maps could not be unlocked . Would you like to enter an unlock code. I say yes and do it from the display. It has no effect!.
When I say no and effectively proceed it displays loaded mapare locked.
Whats going on?
Help please.

I need to load V8 to my Garmin (BMW Nav II) It has a 2 GB card.
I have loaded the new version to the PC. The unlock wizard confirms this. I then select ALL the maps to load to F/C. The left hand panel indicates the maps to transfer (about 210+) and capacity of 1.7 MB. I then hit the tranfer to device. (USB to Garmin) It locates the unit. Then immediately displays (some) maps are locked. My GPS with F/C inserted says all maps are locked.

Is there some unlock code I've missed regarding the actual unit.

Garmin usually send you an unlock code via your email (assuming you got the mapsource/city navigator CD's from them). This is how they sell/licence the software and maps to prevent piracy. If you haven't paid, or are not entitled to upgrade, they won't give you the unlock codes therefore the installation CD's are useless. I hope these CD's weren't an eBay purchase.

The unlock code uses some kind of algorithm to unlock the maps related to your individual Navigator units individual ID number, so you can't unlock maps for someone else with your code. Clever stuff eh?

Sorry if that is bad news to you. I bought a used Navigator 2 myself via eBay and although it is not Garmins policy to support second user equipment, a nice guy called Mark Timms helped me out confirming my unit was not registered as stolen and providing me with CD's/codes I needed. It depends who you speak to at Garmin as one of their agents was really unhelpful, I got Marks help on my second call to them and he was brilliant, try asking for him by name.

I have purchased the new unlock and applied to PC and all seems to work well.
It is the transfer to the F/C that causes me probs. A small area appears ok ie say England. The transfer kicks off to the F/C. When I try to load the whole of Mapsource to the F/C it then says maps are locked. It does list all the maps to transfer and gives a total storeage capacity. ie 210 maps approx 1.7 MB.

I've loaded the update to my PC and Lap top with similar results.

I will look into all this.

I am currently down loading the whole of Mapsource to F/C. This takes about 2 days! It is running.
I got the thing to run by observing the version number in the top box. This originally (in my troubled state) appeared to read Version 8. Last night I looked at the other versions from the drop down box, saw Version 6 and selected that. I started, and it is still running the down load. Which it didn't with V8 version. In the maps listed I appear to have all the maps updated in V8.
Therefore, at this time I am assuming that the list of versions I have named/renamed are screwed up somwhere. I hope this is the case.
Does any of this make sense.?
