I bought one of these on here.:thumb2

However, as received, it won't fix to the bike. See piccies.:(

Bit to attach bag to seat end of the tank has a zip off tabby bit with velcro on the underside, but, errrr....... that's it. Front end of bag (by handlebars) has metal clips with fabric lining (to avoid scratching tank) and I believe seat end should have the same, but no :blast

Before throwing toys out of pram, I'm trying to make it work, but am none too clever, so anyone (a) got a spare bit lying around (longest of long shots :nenau) or (b) any odea how to make it clip securely to the seat end of the tank.

Seaparate question - underside looks as though it had some lining on it, which has been removed. Anyone know if I'm right about that and have a piccy of what it should look like ?

I think that bag is for the early plastic tank models.

Fixing

Buy some large self-adhesive velcro, say 1" x 3". Need both "fluffy" and "hook" pieces. (Try Hobbycraft, may need to use multiple bits to get sufficient area).

Stick the new fluffy pieces on the flap underneath side from the 1100GS logo. Fit the hooky bits to the fluffy bits in the usual velcro stylee, then peel off the paper from the self-adhesive.

Remove the front seat

Offer the tankbag up to the bike, locate the front hooks on the tank lip, LINE IT ALL UP and press to stick the hook bits on the bottom rear of the tank.

The velcro gets trapped by the seat front so it is secure. The long thin hooky strip you can see on your second photo shows the original fixing; the previous owner left the matching part on his/her tank.

Sorry no pics to offer as have sold GS :(

thanks for answering :)

I know beggars can't be choosers and all that, but I'd rather not stick anything to the tank if I can avoid it :angel :blast I was hoping for a cunning plan to fashion hooky things on the seat end of the bag to fit with, or instead of, the (at present, useless) velcro bit :nenau

Also, on mine, the seat isn't flush with the tank - there's a small gap which won't hold the bottom zip off tabby bit in place  My 1150 was the same.

There's no pleasing some folk, is there ? :pullface :D

Top tip ...

... if and when you do get it fitted; when you need to refuel, don't undo the rearmost zip, just unhook the front because those hooks are on slightly stretchy material. Similarly, when attaching, do the zip bit up first, then stretch the hooks over the front lip :thumb

poo pants pizzle and, er, botheration

how would it fit to one of them at the seat end, then ?

Plastic tanks don't have the lip that metal tanks have. So the lower had to be velcroed in place.

But even with the later tank bags you still have a velcro patch to stick to the tank to stop the support flapping about when the tank bag isn't fitted.

The white gunge on the bottom of the bag on either side, is glue which held in place two strips of foam which help the bag sit properly on the tank top and stop it from sliding about sideways under cornering forces. Without them the bag might be a bit of a sloppy fit. Maybe cut some strips of foam from a suitably coloured sleeping mat and glue them in place with a flexible adhesive?

The zippy bit at the back is indeed intended to be fixed with velcro to the tank to hold it in place. Even the newer version that I have, still has velcro in addition to the hooks for the rear of the tank, to stop the zippy bit falling off / slipping between the seat and the tank when the bag's removed.

If you PM me with your email address, I'll send you a scan of the current bag's fitting instructions instructions. (It'll be tomorrow as I'm off to work in a minute)

Thanks for further replies Mr Steppers and Mr Yeoman :clap

PM sent to Mr Y also

Dug out some velcro but still reluctant :blast and still want clips rather than , or as well as, just velcro :rob

May be easier to go back to my trusty baglux :hide but then peeps would not be able to share in the glory of my pee / sick yellow tank :D

Oi loikes it :roll

Email with instructions attached sent.

Thinking about it, it shouldn't be too difficult to fix / rivet a couple of flat hooks to the bottom of the zippy bit if needs be.

Good luck.
