I'm looking to book for the 2 day Off Road skills course in Hechlingen some time around mid July. Price for 2 days on an 1150 is € 520 . Anyone else thinking about doing this? I'd like to do the 3 day one but I am combining this with my summer hols so I can't abandon the family for 3 days ....can I ?? ;)
I know Zerver and some of his Dutch buddies have done this and rate it very highly .
In case you don't know where this is , it's about half way between Frankfurt and Munich in southern Germany. Anyone thinking about doing the same ?

I'd like to do it but don't think I can really afford it. Do you know the exact dates and whether there's any accommodation available?

Link to Hechlingen website here

As far as accomodation goes I think there is one main hotel used by the participants in Hechlingen. I will check and find out some more but the price is on top of the € 520 I'm afraid. I am thinking to do this on either the 14th & 15th July or the 17th & 18th. I sent an email last night but I haven't heard back from them yet.
I know it's not cheap but I was also looking at doing some off roading in Andorra but then on Suzuki DR 400's - this doesn't include any training - it's just a few days off road riding and it didn't work out much cheaper plus it's a heck of a lot further to get there in the first place. I like the idea of getting to grips with a GS off road much more than a scrawny little Suzuki ...I look at this as an investment in my future riding ability :D so it's money well spent hopefully ;)

Cost is probably going to be prohibitive in that case.

I completely agree that it's probably money well spent and I would really like to, but not this half year at least I think.

I did a course in Holland on an XR400 for a day and I really enjoyed it, I'd love to try it on a GS . . . . especially if it's not mine!!

I did a one day all road training with MiGSel last May near Hasselt in Belgium. It was € 150 including breakfast and lunch. There was some basic skills training but mostly just follow the leader on some real nice gravel and odd bit of mud. We did this on the GS , MiGSel has an Adventure. It was a good fun day out - I ached in places I didn't know I had muscles !!
www.motorbeheersing.com in case you want to check it out. I would be up to do it again sometime , it was a good day out.

I'm booked in for the 14th and 15th July. :D Just need to find some accomodation in the area now .

Gecko,

I haven't done this course yet, we are booked for the 3-day course at 25-27/06. Quite some members of the Dutch gs-club have done it, and on one exception they were all very enthousiastic about what they learned...

With your reservation you get a info-folder with a description of the park, the kind of protective clothing you need,
and a list of all the hotels and campings near Hechlingen...

To save some money we decided to go camping, the place is
some 15 min walk from the Forellenhof were lunch and diner are served.

But why not go for the 3-days its 595,- so not that much more as the 520 for the 2 days...

Have fun!

I know Zwerver but I am including this is the family summer holiday and getting then to concede this much has been hard enough...but I am still trying for the 3rd day anyway ;) It would have been good to go with you guys but I didn't have the time off work to get it in in June so 2 days in July will probably have to be enough. I'm looking forward to it already :D
