In another thread, one of the contributors stated he sold his BMW, partly because the cost of parts was far higher than Japanese bikes. I did some research today to see if that was the case. Here are the prices I was quoted:-

Oil filter £8.27
Fuel filter £41.09
Air filter £22.94
Spark plugs £80.84 per set
Mirror £29.38
Rear indicator £52.31 (Available in 3 weeks at 25% off)
L/H switch unit £66.86 (Discounted by 25%) Total = £347.30

Triumph Sprint ST 2002

Front brake pads £76.00 both calipers
Oil filter £8.55
Fuel filter £33.85
Air filter £33.31
Spark plugs £21.11 per set
Mirror £64.62
Rear indicator £29.38
L/H switch unit £92.00 Total = £358.82

All the prices were obtained from authorised dealers and they include VAT. I've just restricted it to the routine service items, throwing in the indicator, switch unit (especially as I had to replace one recently) and mirror for good measure.

Thats a good bit of research there Bob. Very well done I thought.

I dont suppose you also found out the hourly rate the various marques charge for servicing? That would really be good.

Mike

I was thinking of doing that next Mike, but that is not so easily comparable. London prices within the M25 are going to be a fair bit higher than the rest of the country, but I'll give it a go.

Bob

well don't that make me look cheap
Front brake pads ( ferodo platinum) £12 (early) £15 (late type)
Oil filter £4:13
Air filter £4:28
Rear brake pads £12
--- sorry couldn't resist it ---
