Hi all, does anyone out there have any views on dealer service charges.... I have a 2011 GS 1200 dohc done nearly 26K and big service coming up, been quoted £500.... jeez...! comments please...???
Also anyone tried an after market can on one of these models...?? sound any better/go any better than original...??
Many thanks for your comments... Joolsy:beerjug:

Big service would have been 24k. Is that the one you are referring to? Have you tried an independent like Motoscot or Steptoe to see what they would charge?

I have 3 dealers to choose from in East Anglia, Balderstones, Cannons and Lind.

My home branch Lind quoted me £320 for a 6k service on my 2011 GS. I phoned the other two who were doing the same service at £255 and £270.

I moaned to Lind and they dropped it (grudgingly) to £290, complaining they don't know how the other two do it!
The service was really just engine oil, final drive and valve clearances. The brake fluid was untouched despite being black as the proverbial.

I will do the same ring around when the 12k is due...

Just had the 24000 service done at Calterdon up her in the arctic. Cost was £356, actually pleasantly surprised as was expecting £400+, still a hefty tab though. Bike runs better now, they've go a really good tech there.

dealer servicing

Hi All, hope this reply goes to all who answered my thread...? still getting used to this web site etc....
Sorry for late response....
Yes its the 24K service but for some reason its being done at 26K, something to do with when I bought it at 20K etc etc... I'm sure BMW Allen Jefferies up in Bradford know what they are doing...? they quoted me £350...
Where I live down here in Surrey, Vines quoted me £500....!!
And I gave them the whole service sheet printed out by Jefferies Bradford (where I bought the bike from) so I'm off up there to visit family and have service done at the weekend...500 mile round trip, but will still be in pocket...!! Sorry, blabbing on now...
My only concern with having service done by aftermarket garage is that it would invalidate warranty etc....
Also, does anyone have any views on this...? and would it put you off buying a GS if it had stopped being serviced by a dealer...?? sorry for long blurb.....
Finally, anyone know if the next service is a big un...?? Many thanks for your thoughts, Joolsy :blagblah

Don't forget when complaing about prices-------------------------

VAT accounts for an additional 1/5 on top of the parts/labour........

The final drive on a DOHC is not done until 12k (after the first 600 mile service) and the F+R brake fluid is changed at 1 yr old.
