Hi has anybody any experiance with this helmet. Thinking of buying one from local dealer

Tried one on today.

Not impressed.

I wear glasses, and use a System 5 helmet, and can take it on and off without having to remove my glasses.

No chance with the System 6. Remove glasses first, and even worse, the glasses don't fit properly with the helmet on.

So i'll be hunting down a discounted System 5 to put in storage until I need it.

Shame.

Was chatting to a mate yesterday about his new System VI. He used it for the first time on a tour a week or so ago, very wet weather.

His view is that it's lighter than the V, as comfortable and reasonably quiet (for a flip-front). He liked the the pin-lock and the sun-visor. The latter is very good because it doesn't leave a large gap beneath it unlike some similar ones (this does have something in the extreme peripheral vision though, possibly the hinge mechanism).

He said that the visor, when fully raised, doesn't lift completely out of your eye-line and was a little distracting at first.

(Not my views but a pretty accurate report of the conversation).

I got one in April, visor mechanism broke within a month, replaced with a complete new helmet under warranty, this one lasted about 2 months, broke again, waiting for spares to fix. I here there might be a recall ?? any one else had problems ? other than that it is a lovely helmet.

system 6

Hi

Dealers have mentioned that the build quality is not quite their yet !

Get a system 5 at discounted rates (£185 in some places ) Its a great helmet , had mine for 3 years NO probs and just brought another one.

Regards Bigboy

Used a Sys 6 over 3000miles . I had a Sys.5 before , the 6 is quieter and about 300 grams less weight .
Nothing has fallen off or broke, it didn't fog up in the rain or leak.
Riding with the chin piece raised up to 60 is not a problem.
But there is a crucial design flaw . On the Sys 5 when you lock the chin piece there is audible double click . On the new helmet you cant hear the double click ( is mentioned in the owners manual as a indication that the helmet is locket in place ) . I found in some cases that the chin piece was only locket on one side and was loose on the other side . Now I check that the chin piece secured , with two hands.
Considering that the chin piece is designed to be raised and locket with one hand ( as per O.M) is bad show from BMW .
Dealer checked other helmets and they have the same issue. There is no audible indication that the helmet is locked
Had a look at the new Schuberth C3 and the locking mechanism they use is like on the old Sys 5.
Frankh mentioned that the locking mechanism broke , well the only way you can be sure that is locked ( when you use one hand) is to slam the chin piece down ,in a violent manner . Maybe that why it broke?
Still pleased with it.

My system 6 closes with no problems, single handed.

The only 'issue' I can find is that the visor needs the 'extra' closure on the left hand side - this I find odd.

dealer stated - 'they all do that'

Bought a new System 6 last Friday - under £300 for plain colours.

Left hand hinge mechanism started jamming within 10 minutes of getting it home :(

Swapped it Saturday morning for another which appears to be fine so hopefully the problem was a one off :augie

Thoughts so far is that this is a great helmet - quieter than my 4 year old Schuberth S1, better ventilation, drop down sun visor goes down further than the S1 and the sliding mechanism allows it to be left in different positions.
Pin lock works very well and no gap at top of visor when properly closed as mentiuoned in some earlier threads.

Cannot see me wearing the S1 any more - this helmet is so good and the Tourex will now only be used for track days on the KTM :D

One other point with the new System 6 - it is a wide helmet.
Fits fine in the ali GSA top box but it is a tight fit in the full sized ali side box - will only just fit by laying it on it's side.
Mine is the 60/61 size helmet - would suggest that you check it will fit if you have the varrio panniers ;)

Bought one last week, I love it, much more comfortable and quieter than my system 4 carbon. The visor closing operation is a bit unusual in so much as you close the last bit from what BMW call city mode by pulling the visor down from the top of the visor not from the bottom.

I've had a System 6 for about five months now with no issues.
Comfortable and much lighter than the System 5 and looks more compact width-wise as well . With the standard Pinlock, the fogging issues ever-presnt with the Sys 5 have gone.
I really like the drop down sun visor also, and the ratchet chin strap fastener seems to work well.
Ventilation is good, and I like being able to leave the visor open a fraction - as mentioned by others, you completely close the visor by applying pressure to the top left hand side - no problem in practice.
the only adverse point is that the colour range is pretty poor - too many dark colours.

Had mine for about a month now and have done several 200+ mile trips in all sorts of weather. Absolutely brilliant, once you get used to the top left final visor close trick. Fits in Vario side box no problem.

My only moan is that the Bluetooth headset for it isn't out yet - well not as far as I've been told.

Have you still got the helmet or is it at the dealers?
If you still have it, lift the visor and look at the toothed part of the mechanism you will probably find one side is out of position, it is not very difficult to get it back operational until the spares arrive. Drop me a pm if you need me to describe how to do this. Mine failed four times travelling round Europe last month and didn't have the luxury of a dealer to swap it out.

Thats what happened to the one I returned - the toothed bit for the visor came adrift - could probually have fixed it if I had to.

System 6

Had mine about two weeks. So far so good. QUite a bit heavier than my old System 4, so if the Sys 5 was heavier still that accounts forall those sturdy necks around the place! Took me a while to suss the visor closure trick, but the fighter pilot sun shield is a great idea.I found that the sidebars of my sunglasses pressed into the side of my head which became uncomfortable on a long ride. Noise level about the same as the Sys4 I reckon. Never had a flip up before seems pretty good

Just bought one from ChandlersBMW Bikes.

Just bought a System 6 from Chandlers BMW Bikes, in Portslade, Sussex. I paid £292.50 (a 10% discount) and negotiated a free BMW Motorrad hat! Yes, I know, its sad isn't it!

This helmet is something else. I've taken off my Caberg Justissimo GT for the last time, I hope. The helmet is quieter without earplugs than my Caberg was with them. You can hear the bike but not the wind or road.

Off to Norway in a week so it will give it a 3,000 mile test. Riding home I felt like I did moving to a BMW 3-series touring having had a VW Golf - it's a completely different level, but then I'm anovice and have only been riding since last September.

THANKS ALL

Thanks , plenty of positive feed back here then. Me Thinks I will buy one.

Hi, has anyone out there gone from an Arai to the System 6 who could comment on the quietness of the System 6.

My Arai is fairly noisy(though not as noisy as the Caberg Justissimo I had before), so I am looking around for other helmets, and want something that is as comfy and quieter compared to my Arai.

I'm hoping info here can help me with quietness, as far as comfort goes, I guess the half hour I have it on in the shop will have to do.

Thanks
