BMW system 6 flip front lid

Hi, has anyone out there gone from an Arai to the System 6 who could comment on the quietness of the System 6.

My Arai is fairly noisy(though not as noisy as the Caberg Justissimo I had before), so I am looking around for other helmets, and want something that is as comfy and quieter compared to my Arai.

I'm hoping info here can help me with quietness, as far as comfort goes, I guess the half hour I have it on in the shop will have to do.

Thanks

I went from a Shoei XR1000 to a System 6 and found there was a significant reduction in noise levels.

sys 6

i have an arai rx7 and had a system 5 . the system 5 was quieter than the sys 6 . but i like the system 6 . I think it comes nearer to doing all jobs but i still wouldn't wear it without earplugs . Waitin hard on the bluetooth kit.

I did the same - thank you

Just bought a System 6 from Chandlers BMW Bikes, in Portslade, Sussex. I paid £292.50 (a 10% discount) and negotiated a free BMW Motorrad hat! Yes, I know, its sad isn't it!

This helmet is something else. I've taken off my Caberg Justissimo GT for the last time, I hope. The helmet is quieter without earplugs than my Caberg was with them. You can hear the bike but not the wind or road.

Off to Norway in a week so it will give it a 3,000 mile test. Riding home I felt like I did moving to a BMW 3-series touring having had a VW Golf - it's a completely different level, but then I'm anovice and have only been riding since last September.

I have also bought the System 6 from Chandlers (thanks to my brother who lives nearby and your post on this thread.) I am not a novice and can say that this helmet is the best
Ii have ever worn. It costs 40% more on the continent so that encouraged me to take the trouble to come over (not specially for that but the difference did pay the air fares for three of us by easyjet!)
All I need now is a nice Union jack to stick on the back - where can I get one please,

Owned a 6 for 4months, previously had a 5 for a couple of years although used it along side my Shoei 'X Spirit'. The 6 is as quiet as the 5, the fit(for my head), feels better and has moulded quicker, both helmets are fitted with a full 'Autocom 'head set. The visor, pinlock and sunvisor have been excellent. However, my first helmet lost it's chin ventilation flap within hours - a new helmet was provided under warranty without a fuss. The second helmet has given no problems as previously stated. Verdict - Good helmet which I like and now is my first choice when riding,
Hope this is useful

My system 6 closes with no problems, single handed.

The only 'issue' I can find is that the visor needs the 'extra' closure on the left hand side - this I find odd.

dealer stated - 'they all do that'

It's by design to allow ventilation apparently

I wonder if there has been a slight red-design then, I have a System 6 that's 3 weeks old and it closes single handedly and seals nice and tight.

I have read back through some of the reviews where people have had issues with visor closure.

Also no leaks from my visor either, as some found with earlier 6's, all in all I think it's a great helmet.

visor recall

Bought my System 6 last September. Fantastic lid - light as a feather, good venting, close fitting but comfortable, lovely matt dark grey colour.

No probs with positivity of closure.

Visor started fogging last week so called in to NOG when passing, not really expecting much joy. Visor was immediately identified as one of a faulty batch on recall, so replaced FOC there and then. :thumb2 to NOG for that, but  shouldn't a letter have gone out to purchasers?

Also one major prob. On the forehead cushion panel there's a vertical seam down the centre. For ten minutes or so after removing the helmet you look like something out of Star Trek. :(

Yep, I get that, looks like someone left a couple of links of sausages on your head :)

Had mine for about a month now and have done several 200+ mile trips in all sorts of weather. Absolutely brilliant, once you get used to the top left final visor close trick. Fits in Vario side box no problem.

My only moan is that the Bluetooth headset for it isn't out yet - well not as far as I've been told.
I know this is quite an old post but does anyone have/know about what you can/cant do with the Bluetooth assuming you have had it fitted, does it do voice dialling or is it phone software dependent and has no smart features of its own. i made enquiries about the Sys 6 and was told that the bluetooth kit is something thats a dealer fit. Oh and i want mine fluorescent yellow, for visibilty you understand.....

I just bought one and mine also seals without any added pressure. I say seals, but perhaps I should have said closes, it hasn't rained since, not that I'm complaining, you understand.

One thing that bothers me is the buckle pressing on my adam's apple, it's being pushed back by the chin pad extension, but it is better with the smaller version pad supplied. One other thing I find awkward is that the flip front (not the visor) is so stiff that it's difficult to close single-handedly. Perhaps I can compare mine with others' at Sid's Airhead WeeKend in a few days.

A definite plus for me is the ventilation, my last helmet, a Caberg, did have openable vents but I could never feel the difference between open and closed. I also like the wide field of view, but with my bike the lower edge of the visor does get in the line of sight when fully open. Anyway, it won't stay open at much over 60mph which I find annoying.

On the plus side, it does look to be very well made- the reliability of its visor remains to be seen, it's only three days old- and to use the cliche, it does appear to ooze quality. Despite the niggles I like it, I think we'll get along fine.

I was assured they didn't drop to bits any more ....

.... I'm on my third replacement now :nenau

I know of plenty who are happy with them though :thumb

Despite the niggles I like it, I think we'll get along fine. The instructions about the sun visor use are IMPORTANT. It must be operated by the lever, not by hand. There are cables involved and one of mine has broken - after almost three years. It is at the dealers ( in France) now but I fear is not repairable. If it had happened within the 2 year guarantee period they would have given me a new helmet - although i bought ut in the UK.

Leaky

Had my System 6 for a couple of years. It started leaking badly about a month ago, it feels like my face is being sprayed with a mist and the inside of the visor remains wet long after the outside of the visor has dried off causing poor vis. Also, the dark visor is soaking wet if kept 'up' in rain and used after a down pour during a sunny spell. Pretty annoying.

I am on my second warranty helment and third bluetooth system.
The helmet leaks round the visor the pinlock type insert falls out while riding and won't seal so I am plagued with misting up.

The plastic sun visor operating slider is falling off the helmet.

The bluetooth system reduces volume randomly and makes communication impossibly difficult.

I comute daily 30 miles each way and it has become a complete nightmare when raining, cold, sunny, hot etc etc etc.

The dealer has washed his hands of it and so I shall have to buy a replacement. It won't be BMW!

When it came for my fourth replacement I opted out and put the money to some Atlantis pants .... best quality kit and shows that BMW CAN get it right ;)

Now I have another Schuberth C3 :thumb

I've had Schuberths for years, I keep two ready for action at any one time .... probably had six or seven at least ....

N E V E R a problem with any of them

I've had my sys 6 for two weeks and ridden in sun (yes it does exist) and absolute down pours and even a snow blizzard over the Slocht (A9 Scotland 1350').
In the downpour which lasted well over 2 hours water came up through the air vent and puddled on the visor, most annoying till the air vent was shut then it dropped down onto the chin bar, the chin bar was soaking inside, but it didn't mist up though.

I also have a Shuberth S1 which mists up at the drop of a hat.

I'm not sure whether to return the helmet for water ingress, it definitely came in through the air vent (chin bar) not down from the top.

I find the air flow very good if a little noisy, though in general the helmet I find fairly quiet.

Now on my SECOND replacement, that is- the THIRD helmet, the last two got to be very stiff to close, the last one went bang when I tried to close it, a peg had popped out of its matching socket deep in the mechanism on one side of the chin-piece/helmet gap. I managed to relocate it with a ruler through the gap, it was possible to close it again but it was still very stiff. It was easy enough to close it when you had it in both your hands but trying to close it single-handed with one gloved hand while it was on your head while sat on the bike was sometimes impossible. It was embarrassingly difficult to show how stiff it was when I returned it to the dealer until the Equipment Assistant actually put it on her head and tried to close it with one hand whereupon it got stiff and went bang for her too.

So I am now on my third. Pudding basins were never this tricky... :rob :D
