Picked up a nail in the rear tyre of my 1150 a few weeks back after a trip to Wales. Luckily only noticed it when I went back into the garage a few days later to go for a ride. Finally got around to trying to fix it - opened the tool kit and a pristine unopened tyre repair kit was there. :) Read the instructions. Read them again. Check the forum and saw the excellent step-by-step photos of the job. So off I go. Followed the instructions to the letter. Plug 1 push in, REALLY push in, not going in, torn at top. Re-ream hole to ensure big enough. Plug 2.....same as plug 1.:blast Only Plug 3 left. Ahem, serious now. :( Reread the instructions, recheck this site. Nope, don't seem to be doing anything wrong, but putting a plug in the hole seems to be as challenging as the logistics of giving birth to a two stone baby but in reverse. Plug 3: here goes.... PUSH, PUSH, no go! Final broken plug. Throw reamer tool away in frustration, trash the garage etc etc :mad::mad:

How on earth does this thing work? The hole I had was in a Tourance, in a channel between the blocks.... Am curently trying a screw + tyre cement so I can ride to the dealer for a repair..... Or should I try Ultraseal instead....suggestions??

Is your hole dry ...

... then it needs lubrication, in the form of the adhesive ! When introducing the plug you need to lather it in adhesive, otherwise it binds and tears :thumb2

I did indeed lather it in adhesive - so much of the blue gunk that the front half of the plug was completely covered.... but still no go, the big rubber bung had no interest in squeezing itself into a small hole.... :augie . One thought I had was the repair kit was the original one with the bike and so 8 years old, although completely sealed and untouched, perhaps had aged and less flexible now..

I have used them very effectivly, but I use the string type generally, they are easier to use, save the bwm ones for when the hole is larger, u do have to put cement on both the plug and on the tool as you ream, :eek

LUAGHING MOLE - exactly the same experience as yourself.
I went to Busters and got a Stop and Go POCKET tyre plugger kit - perfect. two tyres on the trot now, I have got a nail within 500 miles of a new tyre...the mushroom plugs in that kit above have worked fine for the life of the tyre, except this last one, where I have done about 12,000 miles on the mushroom plug and it started to weap a slow puncture. I put up with for a few days, just bunging more air in. Then I got bored and just stuffed the tool in again, pushing out the old plug (rattling around in the wheel rim) and inserted a new mushroom to see the tyre out. Perfect again. I think the wires of the carcass had just had a nibble at the mushroom stem allowing air to seep past. New mushroom fine.

The kit is £20 and you get 15 plugs in it, plus everything you need to make good a puncture wound to your round, black things. Absolutely recommended - I threw my BMW tyre repair kit away. The plugger kit comes in a pouch that fits under the seat of my 1150 Adv. with the tool kit.
