London or Munich...
I just bought my 1200GS there and thought I'd post my views for others. I do understand that dealer ratings are subject to experience...

I first went to Vines on a Saturday (date is irrelavent) to have a look what is on offer. Although all sales staff were busy at the time of my arrival, one did come over to ask us if we would like a coffee and said he'd be with us in 15 min or so. And 15min later he was serving us!

He took his time showing us all the used bikes they had on offer, me not knowing which bike excactly I wanted felt at ease and not rushed in test sitting some bikes. We narrowed it down to 3 bikes to test ride; F800ST, R1200R and R1200GS. We arranged a date for 2 weeks later as I was going for a short holiday and we left.

A week and a bit later I got a phone call from Vines inquiring if the dates set are still ok for me. I confirmed this and he told us that unfortunatly the 1200R would not be available that day. We went ahead with that date anyway.

On the day, The GS was first. Again we were asked if we would like a coffee or anything before setting off. After the ST we had a sitdown and chat with Alex, one of the sales people.

All through the process of choosing a bike,Alex was polite, informative and did not rush us or pressurize. He stepped back and allowed my wife and I to talk it through. Of course we bought the GS, otherwise we wouldn't be here!

They took my old Ducati ST4 as part-ex, arranged a date for pick-up and everything went as smooth as could be! On the day of the collection, the bike was clean and running perfectly. All paper work was present and nothing had to be printed out or looked for.

Verdict:

Vines of Guildford has shown high standards as that you would expect from a BMW dealer. Every member of staff that we meet was very friendly welcoming. The premises was very tidy and clean. I can only heartily recommend this dealer to anyone! I am actually thinking of taking my 1 series there to be serviced instead of my local BMW car dealer!

Nice to see a positive post where its deserved.

Good luck with the GS!

Well, you see so many negative post around. People seem to be more animated when they have something to complain about!
I thought I'd even out the balance a bit :)

Stu. What are describing is the sales process. If a dealer can't get that down to a fine art they should never be in business.
The acid test is what their after sales service is like.

I've no experience of Vines so I'm not making a point either good or bad regarding them but I wouldn't judge the quality of a dealership just based on the selling of a bike.

MD

The bloke isn't judging the dealership by just a sales experience...

He's putting across his experience thus far - A positive one.

Take a moment to step down from the moral high ground and take it for what it is. A positive post.

:roll

NB. I wasn't trying to take a high moral stance just making a comment particularly in relation to Stu's comment "I can only heartily recommend this dealer to anyone!". Just a bit premature in my view.

Fair enough.

Points made and received. ;)

FWIW I found Vines to be pretty good when I used them a few years back. Darren seems to be genuinely interested in his customers which, I guess, its what its really all about.

Plus it's sunny, life's too short (As demonstrated by the fact that I'm attending a colleague's funeral tomorrow - Jeepers, I'm only 35 :() and I'm trying to think positive thoughts today. :bounce1

NB

Too true. I guess I was in a bit of a grumpy mood earlier... you're right.... life is too short:thumb2

Having used vines since 2004, their sales and after sales process is faultless. You get what you pay for. They are expensive, but thye are a really good bunch, and as stated previously, they are genuinely interested in your bike and how you feel about it...

I understand where you are coming from, but as I wrote in my initial post, it's all down to personal experience.
So far, Vines has made a very good impression with me and I wanted to share that info with you. As for aftersales or any other dealings with them, as long as the standards don't drop my opinion will stay the same.
As iangough said, they may be expensive but in my experience you get what you pay for! BMW have a reputation and image of good quality, this is what attracts most customers. If a deal or service is unsatisfactory you must let the people know! If this does not resolve the issue, escalation to a higher level of authority is always and option but I think most businesses will want to satisfy the customer before it gets that far (I should hope!)

Back to the topic... I think it's good to post a good experience on a dealer as not does it only promote confidence in others who wish to use their services, it also gives the dealers a boost in confidence to see that their customers are happy and they are doing something right!

just my two pennys worth I have always found Vines to be exellent for sales and service (i think I might have paid for most of their new Showroom!) as you say you get what you pay for.
I have had great advice from both Keith and Daren and always a warm welcome
:beerjug:

Been back at Vines for the Hograost event and a couple of times as I was passing through. Always a good welcome and a good coffee! I even got a good offer on a new jacket there, but didn't have the cash at the time...:banghead:

I've been to vines a couple of times for test rides and chats and always found them really nice and more than happy to chat away an hour if they aren’t busy. On test riding a 12gsa I asked when they wanted it back to be told, we close at 4, but if you bring it back at 5 too she "would have to hurt me" with a big grin on her face. When I got back after 90mins she came down to great me with the same smile and "is that it?"
Great guy’s good advice and my new 1150gsa will be going there for all its servicing!

the Vines experience

I'm a newbie - just bought an 07 black with 830 miles on the clock - and can say that it was a pleasure dealing with the guys at Vines. Nice and relaxed, no pressure, I felt I could have walked away and not bought anything and they'd have been happy to see me the next time and go through it all again. My only criticism was that I had to do a bit of desk hopping as i was transfered from sales bloke to finance bloke and back again. But I understand why they do this, it's checks and balances (and doubtless regulated by FSA or whatever the finance body is). Very happy (and loving the bike!).

also bought mine from vines, 05 1200gs with 8k on the clock, needed low seat - they swapped one no charge, set it up for me and changed battery, picked it up last Sat, great price, good attentive sales service, everything done as promised and on time, second key and alarm fob turned up yesterday, couple of follow up calls makes sure all is ok

FWIW..... purchased my GS from Vines at Guildford back in June, and dealt with Alex. Can only praise them for a great service. Very polite/friendly, made to feel welcome without pressure.....
After a few weeks the oil seal on the final drive was leaking... took the bike in, and hassle free repair on warranty.
Recently, Alex phoned me up enquiring how everything was with the GS, and was I happy....
I've never experienced this with any large dealership before.....
they certainly get the thumbs up from me:thumb

Only good words for the staff at vines. They do a good job in advising what needs to be done, no more than what is required and no upsell. prompt and follow-up is excellent.

Recommended for sure.

Someone should start a Penny fan site..... :D
