Clarification please.
When selling a used BMW, less than 3 yrs old, are you expected to sell this with a BMW warranty?
Is it policy to refuse to sell a BMW warranty with a bike, older than 2yrs, that has not had continual warranty since new?
I was told I couldnt purchase a BMW warranty on the bike I was purchasing, as a) it had a dealer warranty, and b) it had not had continual BMW warranty and so was ineligable for the scheme.

I'm not going to name and shame at this stage, but I'm pleased to say some BMW dealers restore my faith in the brand, whilst sharp practice seems quite acceptable to some.

I`m pretty certain that the T&C`s of the 3rd and 4th year BMW warranty insist that the bike hasn`t had a warranty break. I`m pretty sure the paperwork I have says as much so I would imagine the same rules apply to second hand bikes from a dealer.

They do a specific warranty on a used bike though don`t they? I`m led to believe it`s pretty good:nenau

Thanks sgt,
I wasnt offered a used warranty to purchase; interesting.......

I'm not a dealer, but my personal experience with the BMW warranty lot is that they do not like breaks in the warranty cover. When I bought my bike privately, the warranty had run out about a month before, and I had to pay Bahnstormer £55 for a report before the warranty people would accept the bike.

Just as well I did, it needed the engine/gearbox seals replacing before the end of the next year.

BMW Approved Used Bike (AUB) Warranty

Firstly, dealers can elect not to sell a bike under the above scheme, although I can understand why they might. However, if they are using the BMW AUB website to market the bike then they can't / shouldn't withdraw the AUB warranty.

Any BMW motorcycle (subject to age and mileage) can be included so long as it has either a full dealer service history or the machine is brought up to date ie any missing mileage or annual services are completed by the supplying dealer. The bike does not have to be in warranty to have an AUB warranty activated on sale.

Bikes that have some of the original factory warranty remaining will be topped up with an AUB warranty so that the new owner can enjoy peace of mind for a full 12 months for date of delivery.

Finally and where applicable, all AUB bikes that of an age to need an MOT should be supplied with a fresh MOT and 12 months RFL.

This isn't a full detailed breakdown of the warranty and without knowing the bike, its history or the manner it which the bike was offered for sale but it may go some way to help you, the full details should still be available on the BMW UK or dealer website.

Just for info my 1200 is a 54 plate, and I've just had a letter through offering another year's warranty. Its about to have the gearbox oil seal done under the existing years warranty.. so well worth extending again IMHO.

Thanks for the replies;
Paul, that was particularly helpful.
At this stage, lets just say I'm a little..... "dissapointed" with at least one of the BMW motorrad brethren.
More when I'm able too.
