i own an 1996 bmw1100gs i have a new varta battery installed full braided hoses, wire wheels replaced with mags etc but when i start bike and ride off the abs light flashes but does not go off, i can take her down road use the clutch switch her off/turn on bump start slow down and start off again and then the abs light disappears! and abs works ok! what is the problem???? any help will be much appreciated tyvm

Your battery is a little flat :thumb2, until I fitted an odyssey battery I used to have to top up the battery occasionally to prevent the problem.

If it's not the battery being a little low, then another culprit can be a starter drawing too much current = same result. When the engine is running, the ABS doesn't see the voltage it wants.

its not the battery as its brand new and i have a trickle charger connected to bike! thnx stewart and john

When you turn the ignition on how do the two ABS lights in your instrument panel flash - together or alternately.

You try turning on the igntion ( with headlights switched off and all other electrical drains turned off), waiting a few seconds and then hiting the starter button.
If the ABS system is going through it's self checking procedure at the same time as you press the starter button it'll read a low voltage and it won't activate.

What ABS sensor rings are you using on the mag wheels ? are they the later pressed rings or the solid rings. If it's the later pressed rings on an early ABS bike that can throw up problems.

How long have the mag wheels been fitted ?, was it ok before they were fitted ? has it happened since they were fitted ? was it fine with them fitted previously ?

I'd also double check your battery and starter.
