I've got a copy of the Waitrose statement which the managers hand out, when challenged on the subject.

I seriously don't know why they keep coming here , they've got no candidate due to loosing the deposit repeatedly and were boo'd out of the town last Sunday when the Gay Pride March was on .... :bounce1

Iv'e wondered if people think you'll automatically vote for them because it's an ex industrial town , maybe's should have checked out the demographics abit better , it's a University town these days and has won best student experiance from the Times Online repeatedly .

However it was fun watching hard men being told to erm leave by old biddys who'd come to watch their grandchildren mince in pink outfits , sorry i meant march with pride ....:D

I even bought myself a scarf from their charity stall , couldn't decide what colour to get so bought one that looked like a rainbow , must have been a well thought out stylish choice because plenty of boys were talking to me and commenting on it .... Iv'e still got it ...... :augie
 
Halal isn't just about praying for the animal before it's slaughtered. AFAIK, the correct muslim halal procedure is to slit the animals throat whilst it is still conscious and bleed it to death. The animals are hung head down for the slow end of their lives: Pllease correct me if I have this fact wrong because I am a great believer in each persons religious freedom and I don't want to offend.

I cannot believe that the Waitrose lamb production is carried out this way.
 
You'd think Waitrose would be proud of their stance.............

Yep that is the correct halal way, and is why I think it is disgusting that we are not being given any real choice in this. The bnp have jumped on the bang wagon but this is just diverting the issue.

If animals meat is halal it means the animal suffered during death, something this country has been moving away from with animal welfare concerns.

The majority of UK slaughtered meat is done by the Halal method IIRC

Easier to do it that way for all, so our Muslim brothers don't get the wrong batch & anyway most of the UK slaughterhouses are either owned or run by Muslims so now we have no choice

If that was the case you couldn't get pork. Halal and kosha require the meat to be drained of blood so yes the animal is bled while alive. Most uk meat is stunned with a humane bolt gun then hung upside down and it's throat cut. This is done very quickly and in most cases the animals heart is still beating so it bleeds out properly but due to the blot to the brain the animal is brain dead.

Pigs are slaughtered in solus abbatoirs, which don't process any other species

I was talking about Halal in ruminants ...................not mono-gastrics:D
 
Just to clear a few things up'..
1..
All meat slaughtered { abbatoir/ slaughterhouse } in this country {UK} is bled to death....
2..
All meat slaughtered in this country MUST, BY LAW be stunned before bleeding.
3...
Has been on the statute books since the 70's [ maybe the 60's ]
4...
No council or law enfocement agency will invoke this regulation...
Why? I have no idea, maybe they will be accused of racism..
5...
I renounced my faith after my Rabbi told me how Kosher killing was done.
just before my Bah Mitzvah..
6...
The reason Halal and Kosher butchers kill the way they do, is because of a chapter in the "Book" [ take your pick which book] that states>. All beasts must be fit to walk to their slaughter....in olden days and in 3rd world countrie very understandable as an ill or diseased beast could play havoc healthwise..


IMHO this "clause" is no longer needed in countries like ours...

Don't forget that as far back as the middle ages the humane and mostly standardised { Western World} way was "Poleaxing" which although seeming brutal is a lot less traumatic to the beast than the 5 to 7 minutes of conciousness whilst they bleed to death...

I will NEVER knowingly eat Kosher or Halal meat.....even as far >>> going veggie in an indian or Jewish restaurant...
