Not sure where to post this but I'm sure you off-roaders will be able to help me out.

I've got a couple of days booked on the BMW off-road course down in Wales in April :thumb2 but I'm not sure what clothing best suits off-roading. I've been told not to wear my normal bike gear as I'll be sweating like a fat slapper at a disco...but I'm old and fragile and scared of hurting myself :thedummy !
Is a set of MTX armour under some lightweight clothing a better option than my normal gear? There seems to be some reasonably cheap gear on eBay.

Whose been there already? What do you recommend :nenau .

Well I've been on it and am going again 13-14th april. It all depends on weather conditions. If you wear body armour you'll ride faster and when you come off it'll hurt more that's a fact as proven by me. They rent all the clothes if you want but you need a crash helmet, it's wicked fun but I can't recommend breaking you hand to bits it really hurts......

I'm all for body armour under lightweight clothing (if warm) or a conventional jacket with all the padding removed if it's cooler. You certainly don't want to be tempted to remove your jacket and thereby your protection because you're getting too hot.

Rode in Portugal last year in just a long sleeved T shirt with the body armour over it. Worked a treat.

Would not recommend for on-road use though where you also need the abrasion resistance of good clothing.

It depends on what your normal riding gear is :nenau

I wear a Rallye 2 suit and that will be fine (minus the goretex lining and with the vents open if it's hot). If you have fabric gear that allows you to remove the thermal linings etc. and keep the armour then that should be fine.

If you wear leathers or distinctly road biased kit then you might want to think about hiring or buying some appropriate off road style kit.

Personally I'd make sure you are wearing a back protector of some sort and an off road helmet with goggles as well as the usual arm and leg / hip stuff. :thumb2

eXtreme Official BMW armour

For extreme offroading, I recommend this.
