Now What do I do .....
Now got my Macbook running Snow Leopard. The hard drive is partitioned using Bootcamp into 2 volumes - one for Leopard and the other for Windows XP and I'm using a external ADSL dial up modem connecting to phone line. Have successfully installed to the Windows partition the modem drivers for the ADSL modem (provided by Tiscali several years back when I was using OSX 10.3 on an earlier non Intel based Mac) - all is fine /able to get a decent broadband connection.
Then I come to try doing the same thing on the Leopard partition - problems!

Discovered that the supplied software for my modem is not compatiable with any Mac OSX beyond 10.4! Contacted Tiscali customer services - explained the problem - guy confirmed that the there is no existing software available for OSX 10.6 for the particular modem I have supplied by Tiscali! He then suggested I contact their Upgrade department who he assured me would come up with a solution. This I duly did to be told by a second person (with a distinctly Indian accent) that what I needed was a wireless router which could be hooked up the Macbook via a cable. I was assured that this would solve the problem of compatibility with the MacOSX 10.6.software. Router arrived within just 24 hrs

(one up for Tiscali). Unpacked everything last night - read the very brief instruction sheet and began to be concerned when all I could see were references to Windows XP and Vista - not a single mention of OSX Leopard!
With nothing to lose - tried installing the router's supplied installation CD. Wouldn't run. When I double click the disc's icon on the desktop - all I get is a window showing the individual file contents of the disc. - tried opening one labeled 'install' - nothing happened except told unable to open file

So before I yet again pick the phone to have a third conversation with another Indian techie in Bombay

- can anyone give me any pointers as to the around this problem? (assuming their is one!)
