Bored Coppers on Manor Way

Going back to you'r original postin Al, I remember an article about filtering in m c n a few months ago, where a police man having said : a motorcycle can filter if it is resonably safe to do so and it is under 10mph with due care to other road users:.

In contrast to this story,I was recently "making progress" (90mph indicated) along the M4 near Magor in the Audi,I became of aware of a saloon car in the distance of my rear view mirror closing in on me,so I eased off gradually to just under 80mph,the unmarked BMW 5 series draws alongside and a copper in the passenger seat wags his finger at me and mouths s-e-v-e-n-t-y,he then gave the thumbs up and they accelerated away, that'll do for me :thumb2

Humvee, make no mistake you were being rewarded for your observations and use of the mirrors, the more enlightened traffic lads like to recognise and reward a driver/rider who is not just steering their vehicle but is actually aware of what their doing. The number of driver/riders that have the wherewithal to sus out an unmarked car particularly in the rear view mirrors is very low. That mouthed bollocking is as good as a pat on the back mate...... That's not to say they wouldn't pot you if they see you again though:D

Just dusted off a copy of a book that was given to me when I took a bikesafe course a year or so ago - Not The Blue Book.
Pages 49-51 deal explicitly with filtering. It is defined by Dave Jones, ex plod biker, as ''the passing of other vehicles travelling at less than 30mph in a queue''.

It then goes on to give several tips on filtering and mentions that when on the advance test riders will be expected to filter when appropriate.

Also says that when traffic is moving at 30mph+ and not in a queue then that is classed as overtaking and brings with it a different set of advice and rules.

I'd be tempted to complain the traffic superintendent.
Maybe the officer you spoke to had just had a row with his missus that morning and was looking for an argument with someone :nenau
