Hi,I've got a 2005 1200gs with ABS and doing the winter maintenance, the front calipers look like they've never been cleaned so the question is,I want to pull out the pistons and clean them etc,I want to remove the old brake fluid and flush with new fluid,is the bleeding procedure different to other bikes,do I need a GS911 as I dont have one, thanks in advance for any advice
John

thanks Dennis,I dont mind bleeding so long as I dont need a gs911 to reset it as I dont have 1

I bled mine in the normal way topping up fluid at the master cylinder. No problems.

To strip the brakes you need a block of wood to fit between two opposite pistons and a clamp made from two steel strips and two M6 bolts. Clamp one piston back and put the wood between the other two. Compressed air will now push out the piston opposite the clamp. Clean and replace move the clip to the recently clean piston and repeat. Keep swapping stuff about until all four are done.

BMW sell only seal and piston kits for about £60 per caliper. They do not sell separate seal kits so be very careful how you treat those old seals if you plan to re-use them.

Cheers Bendy
ye I was going to bleed them the old way too but after watching that video if it works it has to be the easiest way I ever seen to bleed brakes

I had trouble with fine air bubbles never quite clearing out. Careful lever movement and watching for bubbles coming up into the reservoir eventually cleared the last vestiges of air.
