Good afternoon all,
I currently have the dreaded brake failure constantly illuminated. The light started staying on constantly approximately 2 months ago. Prior to that if I pulled over turned the ignition off and restarted it would generally stay off .
On the advice that the pump was faulty at my local dealership I had the pump removed and sent off to a local refurb specialist. It’s now came back , been refitted to the bike and the fault remains. I’m currently about £800 in but no further forward ???
The dealership is now saying that it is unable to communicate with the ABS canbus elements and that I need to pay for a genuine BMW pump at £1500.
Does anyone use a BMW specialist in the South West that they could recommend for a second opinion by any chance ?
Thanks in advance,
Marc

Marc , I assume someone has checked for fault codes ?
{If not I can do that for you for free with my GS911 ( Bristol) }
Everything else can be expensive guesswork and replacement parts until you get the answer . Could even lead all the way to a faulty ECU .
Where to look first , dunno , but ABS unit must be a suspect and my bike has recently needed one of those .
Sorry , I don’t know any independents .

Hi , thanks for the reply, the fault codes were inconclusive as far as I was concerned.
I was told that the abs unit was at fault so I got it refurbished at a reputable place.
I can’t help thinking that the initial fault was not driven by the failure of the pump and remains after repair of the pump.
If I could workout how to attach a picture I could show all the faults as detailed.
In desperation I may well take you up on the offer of a scan on the gs911 , very much appreciated !!

Have you not tried James Sherlock? https://www.james-sherlock.co.uk/
Hi, I did speak briefly with James however he said that he would just bypass the unit for about £300 . Would really rather get the problem fixed as opposed to doing this.
I am now at the point of just asking BMW Exeter to just order and fit a new pump, if it doesn’t work then I guess I can then go back to them with some kind of warranty…
Thanks for your reply 👍

What age is the bike? Have you done any work on the bike where the sensor cable to the wheels has been disturbed, one of mine was chafed and it put the light on on (06 bike). When my ABS unit did eventually fail the braking was very unpredictable and bloody dangerous, I had mine bypassed and made no difference to braking performance, apart from having no ABS of course!! The guy who did mine in Exmouth unfortunately closed his workshop and went back to working for a dealer.

Hi all ,
Bike now been with Vertu Exeter for about 12 weeks, has had a new BMW pump, abs warning light remains … pulling my effin hair out tbh …

This is an example of another good reason to pay for extended warranty ; it forces BMW to get stuff fixed .
I’ve just had abs pump replaced on my 2014; no warning light , just a rear pedal right down to the floor.
12 weeks , mid summer riding season , is not acceptable.
