Coming home from work tonight on my 2006 1200gs to find that my Brake light was staying on. Had a little fiddle but not too sure what it is, turned the bike off and on again to find the bloody thing not working at all. Any ideas would be helpful?

First check the handguard is not touching the brake lever, then check the switch on the foot brake lever isn't stuck, another common problem is the bulb holder corrodes and causes all sorts of problems (mine is getting replaced next week by the dealer under warranty 2005 bike) HTH

I have checked the switch at the foot brake, not too sure if it is that. Could the bulb holder be corroded already.

My previous 12GS did this. Bloody annoying as I at night I could just make out the brake light intermittently going off/on. It would annoy me if I was following. Unfortunately it was written off before it was fixed :tears . The new one is fine but it's an extreme way to fix the problem.

If the switches appear ok then the bulb holder has to be a strong possibility, my bike is a '55' plate and used throughout the year. There is no seal on the rear light unit so all the road crap can easily get in. The fault on my bike started with a warning light indicating a blown rear bulb but the lights were still working. This was happening on and off for a couple of days and i then put in a new bulb in case it was a bad connection, it was ...holder corroded to F***
It is not an uncommom problem with the bike, from now on I will be giving the area a spray with WD40 every now and then to stop it happening again.
No doubt plenty more people on here will give you further advice/experiences.
Get it back to the dealer and let them deal with it.

It's at the dealers as we speak, they even gave me a courtesy bike which I was very surprised about. I just find it hard to believe that a bike of this age and mileage can have these little niggly things go wrong. This is the first time I have had a beemer, I usually go for Japanese and they have been fault free and cheaper.
