Brake upgrade

1150 GSA that has the same brake calipers as the first Aprilia RSV

Any idea if these are different from the gold ones that followed, and what is the bolt diameter on the red ones?

I have a pair of the gold ones that I've offered up and look to be a good fit, but they have M10x1.25 bolts whereas the BMW ones are M8. I'm tempted to drill out the fork legs to 10mm and fit the gold Brembos but of course then I couldn't go back if I should ever want to.

My 05 1200 has 55577 miles on it now. I have owned it from new and ride it very positively :augie

My front pads are the originals and only half worn. :nenau

My point is; if you are relying on ever better brakes to bring you to a stop in normal road conditions, then maybe it's time you had a good close look at your riding style/ability?

+1 :thumb

51,500 miles on my F800GS and still on the original pads, they're not even half worn. Hardly use 'em .... they slow you down :augie

Could be said I ride like an old lady of course, but then I've had eighteen tyres on it in those 51,500 miles

I used the red calipers on an RSV i bought in 03 (I think): it was the 2nd version of RSV in black and had that massive silencer fitted. I was given the red calipers by a mate who had upgraded his mark I RSV. I did this for a while because one of the gold calipers was ruined because a piston popped and was milled by the brake disc; it nearly had me off. Anyway, the red calipers went straight on without any mods to the fork lowers and I think they are M8 bolts, as were the mark III RSV Brembos if I remember rightly so, I don't know how you've ended up with M10 bolts. Are you sure about that?

yes 100% sure, I've had quite a few of the gold Brembos (I break Ducatis as a business) and I've never seen a Brembo caliper with 8mm threads.

I guess you learn something new every day...

my concerns are emergency braking :blast not everyday riding :augie

My only gripe is the lack of "feel" to the brakes, this is probably down to the non asbestos high metal content of the pad material...
