Whilst my Richa textiles are fine for the colder months, Swmbo has just bought me a fantastic Held Cosmo 2 leather jacket for my birthday which I'm over the moon with. What I'm now looking for is a lightweight jacket to stick over the top when the heavens suddenly open. I already have a two piece oversuit purchased from J&S which keeps the rain out but is unbelievably hot and sticky to wear. I wore it on the B500 through the Black Forest a couple of years ago and didn't enjoy the ride at all :( Can anyone suggest something breathable and compact to chuck in the top box?

Yes but it won't be cheap. BMW do one can't think of the name but look for the goretex label. Jjh

I wear the waterproof Streetguard suit but for when the heavens open I carry a very cheap waterproof hi-viz builders jacket from ebay in my top box. Cost about £20. I might look a twat, but when its really raining who gives a shit, and it keeps the road spray/muck of my Streetguard.

Get the BMW Rainlock 2 . Red top to be seen in the rain and grey pants. Great to be used when off the bike and looks like hill walking stuff the fit is good and not like a balloon.

Not cheap but mine has worked in hours of heavy rain without leaks.

Also look at cycling gear that lot know about riding in the rain.

I also have a Rainlock 2 which is great but its a bit heavy and doesn't pack all that small. Ditto of the matching trousers. I use these in winter. I don't think BMW do them anymore.

In summer and when on tours where packing space is tight I use a Rev'it Cyclone Jacket and Rev'it Acid trousers. Super lightweight, comfy, sized to go over a leather jacket, made of some wonder fabric that is super slick and slippy and goes on a dream, and you barely know its on. Each item packs down to a little more than a coke can size and waterproof too. On a long tour of Europe in 2013 it rained on 37 days out of 40 so it all got plenty use. The jacket was 100% water proof, the trousers got a bit soggy in the crotch in very very heavy prolonged rain when you ended up sitting in a puddle, and I stress a BIT wet, it was more water coming through due to pressure rather than a leak. Nevertheless best viewed as a "day saver" rather than a full on waterproof suit.
