Hi all,
The saga of the breather pipes continues. I've still got a weeping breather pipe on my 1100. I've got some small jubilee clips and pipe and I've started a logical sequence of replacing bits and then filling up the tank to see if the leak has stopped.

When I look at the fuel pump plate on the underside of the tank I can see that there is a damp patch from one of the breather hoses but I can't work out how it has got there.

My plan is to take the plate off and replace the once only clips with the jubilee clips and hope that does the job.

What are the chances that the breather hoses are cracked/perished and has anyone replaced the whole set of breathers? I'm just wondering as I've already trimmed bits off the end and I'm running out of slack in the tank!

Suggestions/comments welcome.

Have you taken the offending hose off and flexed it all along the length? If it was showing cracks I`d replace with a new one even if you can`t spot the leak. Check round the outlet of the tank for small cracks in the paint as there might be a leak from there.
If it`s the original breather pipes they`ll be getting on in years now, I`d be inclined to replace them.

Good luck!

Has the fuel pump access plate been removed in the recent past? and if so was a new 'O' ring rubber seal fitted.

I have the distinct feeling that this particular seal is a 'use once and discard' item. which under normal circumstances is only disturbed (and renewed) when the fuel pump is replaced.

Can I?

Hi,
Can I just unscrew the bolts holding the filler cap on and lift the filler apparatus out?

I want to replace the breather hoses inside the tank and so need to get at both ends.

Anyone got any advice on this?

Thanks,

DA

If you mean the ring of torx screws around the silver coloured cap assembly then yes - there's no problem . I tool my filler cap out recently to unbung the water drain line which was blocked and leading to a big gob of water falling in the tank every time I filled up

If you do it, you'll find that the big o-ring that sits under the cap is too big to allow you to refit it - just leave it for 24 hours in a warm place and it'll shrink back to its normal size.

If they are the same as the 1150, its hard to find clips to fit, I personally used cable ties, and that was 2 yrs ago :thumb

It's better to use proper fuel pipe clips rather than jubilee clips for fuel lines under pressure i.e.the ones that clamp at the side, not round the pipe like jubilee clips. I got mine from Motorworks mainly because I was getting some other bits as well. You just have to be careful how you align them. +1 on what Matt said about re-using the filler cap O-ring. The same applies to the big O-ring on the fuel pump plate, though it doesn't cost much anyway.
