Bridge and road tolls, Sweden and Norway

I am off on my Nordic trip in a couple of weeks. One of our party is telling me I should get either a BroBizz (Bropas) or an AutoPASS or EasyGo automatic toll thing. We will be taking a pre-booked ferry from Denmark to Sweden then traveling up to Norway.

Do I need one of these things, or will it make life easier?

I think I could get by using my Post Office credit card where I have to. This has no foreign-currency transaction charge so will be the preferred payment method for most things.

I've read that many of the road tolls don't apply to bikes, is this the official position or just a matter of the automatic tolls not being equipped to photo bike number plates?

Most of the Noggy tolls have a special lane for bikes....no charge.
Just use your bank card in the atm's. Most folk speak some English.
Young uns speak it better than us.

Make sure you take your booze allowance .....and then some.

All the above. Just back from 3.5 weeks in Sweden, Finland and Norway and I didn't pay any tolls. The ones I saw were all free for motorcycles. Mind you I might get a brown envelope in the post to prove me wrong! I used plastic all the time. The garages and ferries are set up for it. There is little need for cash I found. I did take a bottle of Calvados to console myself for not being able to afford a beer.

Except for a couple of tolls on the West coast, they are all free for bikes in Norway. Posted price is 0 NOK for bikes, just ride through in the AutoPass lane. But you have to pay in Denmark and on the Øresund bridge to Sweden.

Also remember; in Norway you are allowed in the bus/taxi lanes with two wheelers (no sidecars/trikes), and you are allowed to lane split. But no riding on the right shoulder.

In June I had the same experience as Walrus. All toll roads are cameras looking at your front number plate and the signs only refer to cars and trucks. No mention of motorcycles.

Did pay for the bridge into Copenhagen. Used c/c. Same for ferries, use c/c. They prefer it too. Takes seconds.

Lots of petrol stations are unmanned and take a c/c too. For some reason once you get a bit north, you can only get 95 unleaded. No problem but be aware if you are anal about the fuel you put into your bike. Don't keep moving on in an attenpt to find 98 !!

Walrus, did you enjoy your trip? What were the highlights for you?

Grizzly, I had a great time. So many good, twisty, empty roads. Contrary to the popular view I enjoyed reaching the cape. I found Finland interesting. The rock carvings at Alta were good, Dropping into the Fjords at Gerainger, Aurland and Lysebotn was spectacular. So much. I am working in a ride report which might even get finished.
