After my glowing report of a week ago I have had some concerns. The bike is still running fine and the stuttering is all but gone. My concern is that my exhaust pies which have been kept highly polished and were a light straw in colour at the cylinder ends which is approx 240-250 deg C if you were applying heat to temper are now a dark blue and this extends a good way down the pipe to the join which is approx 290-300 deg C. It would appear that the gasses are a lot hotter but not knowing if it is to hot I took the plugs out and cleaned up one pipe which has stayed a straw colour, does anyone know if this extra heat generation is going to be harmfull.

Norman.

My exhaust pipes [where they leave the cylinder head] have been dark blue almost from new. They now have 40 000mls on them and no problem so far. I've used the original Bosh and now have Champion RC7YCC fitted.

I'm kinda surprised you've managed to avoid the discoloration of the header pipes. As far as I'm aware this bluing is normal and has been present on every GS I've seen. Apparently, the header pipes will glow red with no ill effects if the engine is left idling for long enough. Could it be that the engine is only now running at the correct temp?

I'm waiting for my DOR14LGS plugs to arrive.

Russ.

I've just fitted some BRISK plugs, and although i didn't think i had any surging problems, i feel the engine is very slightly smoother, and also it will pull top gear 500 rpm lower quite happily now, if you understand what i mean.
