Planning a trip for myself and Mrs M to northern Spain this year. Its a long haul from Rosslare to Bilbao.

Wondering if the €95 per head each way for the club lounge and food is worth it? Apart from a couple of glasses of wine with dinner, alcohol isnt on my agenda. Seems €400 could buy a lot of grub, but still....

How long are you on the ferry? From Portsmouth, the punters going to Spain are on board for for 2 nights so they can get beers & snacks on the first evening, beer and food all the following day and breakfast on the second morning so it might be worthwhile. For those going from Plymouth to Santander in under 24 hours, with much of it asleep, less worthwhile.

No its not worth it, was when it was 35 quid a head.

Its basic and full of campervan wankers. Its like a fucking zoo at feeding time, with turbomongs showing an inability to show decent manners.

Its also rammed and not much space left, so not exactly relaxing.
might be different from Ireland. But from portsmouth, I would not do it.

We did Dublin - Cherbourg last October & they handed us a pass for the lounge which I'm pretty sure I didn't book or pay for
Visited the lounge several times, mainly for the decent wi-fi, but certainly didn't trouble their stocks of food & drink
It was quiet, clean & pleasant with a constantly attentive steward although she couldn't get the rugby on any of the screens
Neither of us are big drinkers & there's only so much food you can eat so I didn't think it was something I'd pay extra for

The new boats don’t really have anywhere comfortable to sit, and most of the seating areas have irritating tellies on.

The bar area has a constant game show type things and karaoke in the evenings so the lounge or your cabin is the only pace to get a bit of peace.

There is grub, which isn’t bad, including breakfast but I wouldn’t say there’s a decent evening meal to be had. But it’s as good as the so called tapas bar.

There’s a limited wine selection which isn’t bad but no beer.

We did use it both ways last year, mainly because we didn’t on the previous trip and decided it was worth the money to swerve the karaoke

Thanks all so far. Another question if I may. Is there another restaurant on board Salamanca that has decent grub? Is it good food or is it a cafeteria style overpriced chips and burgers?

the decent quality main restaurant opening is subject to there being enough people on the ferry and the time of the crossing - we went on it from Cherbourg to Portsmouth in May on a very quiet crossing in May and it did not open for lunch. We had a choice of the bar sandwiches or the Taberna which is a pretty rubbish cafeteria.

There’s the main restaurant which is OK, and the so called tapas bar, the Taberna, which is cafeteria style stuff. It’s not great but you won’t starve!

There are also light snacks at the bar, where you can watch the game shows, or watch the ladies football on the 35 tv’s around the area.

Do as the true bikermate does and bring a sandwich from the Co-Op. There’s a thread on it.
No sandwiches from the Dairygold Co-Op in Ireland. Unless it's an over-the-top overpriced one from the Ballyseedy cafe attached to the Midleton store. In that case the C club lounge would work out considerably cheaper.

Still, at least there was plenty of cocaine to be had from that posers establishment in the past....
Or make your own. Nowt like a nice picnic.
There will be plenty of picnics if the weather plays ball during the trip in Spain. Was focusing here on the gentle saunter across the Bay of Biscay...
