When I receive a fax my broadband connection drops out, have been onto the help line and they can't offer any advice other that to disconnect the fax.
They recon that the tones for fax and broadband are similar and thats what is causing the prob.
Other than the obvious can anybody suggest a fix please ?

presume you're on ADSL not cable?

try better filters.

um, your fax (and every phone) does have a filter?

Yup ADSL, and all phones are filterd.

However the modem and fax do share a filter.

Will get another one and give it a try.

Thanks.

Lateral thinking.

Make use of broadband to setup a virtual fax number that delivers your fax via email. Neat service I have used this in the past (and others like it)

regards,

Mike

They all do that sir...

Have a couple of customers with similar prob and a copuple without,

I'm also thinking might be filters not been back to check yet.

Both have fax n adsl pluged in same point so it aint that ???

filters i have seen have 2 sockets: 1 for phone/fax & one for adsl.

have you got a filter with 2x phone sockets? not plugging an RJ11 from the fax into the (unfiltered) adsl skt. are you?

Interesting idea Mike, but won't work for me. I receive faxed job sheets and then fax them on to whichever mobile I know can do the job.

Thanks for the info anyway.

Thanks G.

Nope, the filter I have has two different connections, one standard phone socket and one errr smaller square thingie.

Ah well, it'l get sorted in the end. Glad I went into town today, didn't get a filter but had two good results. Will be down the pub later and will tell you then.

Thanks for your help.

the "smaller square thingie" is likely an RJ11 skt for connection to an ADSL modem not fax machine.

phone skt. is filtered, ADSL skt. is not to enable modem to use high frequency signals that upset normal phone equipment.

this is a pic of a typical filter. common one is the thing on the left, ignore the faceplate in the middle as bt stopped fitting them ages ago. you may have one as shown on the right but i've never seen one.

note how all have two different skts. & are labelled according to use: phone & ADSL (not very obvious on faceplate & RH item i grant you).

you need to plug your fax into a filtered phone skt.

Sorry cookie mine don't look anything like them, mine
are more like this.

Can you see the difference.

CRAFT moment sir, don't worry we all get them. :D :D :D
