My diallup is just getting so slow these days, so I reckon the time has come to go broadband. Who's on what out there, and what are the best deals and services available?

Your views and experiences with your various suppliers would be much appreciated

Will,

Have a look at PlusNet.

There's a few using it on this board as far as I'm aware and so far it's been excellent. If you do a search I'm sure it'll thro up the previous threads. They also do a referal deal where if you recommend to someone and they take it up you get a reduction on your broadband cost.

I think Malky has it set up so that if you put him down as your referal the "money off" gets donated to the costs of running the bulletin board. Failing that, if you go ahead, put me down :D

Cheers

Jon
ps. Is your connection maybe slow nowadays cos everyone and their dog is on-line permanently due to the war?

I'm on with BT Broadband. It's been great for months but over the past few weeks I've noticed a noticable slowdown in speed at peak times...still much better than a dialup though.

i highly recommend this lot. very good customer service & technical nous.

check 'em all out here and on the forums linked from that page.

Can't get broadband yet in our village so I have to suffer BT Highway (robbery). I use Vispa as an ISP which gives me unmetered dialup access using both channels to give 128Kbps. Not too shabby but a little unreliable and I'm waiting for the day when they mail me to say I'm using the service too much. BT did this with their "unlimited" packages by restricting users to 150 hours per month plus they only offered 64Kbps unmetered.

I'd love some kind of always on broadband as long as it was low latency - satellite would be unacceptable.

I've had Telewest Blueyonder broadband for about two years now.....unlimited high speed access, and now with 2mbps connection.

Always connected, no dial-up delays, instant loading of most pages......well worth £35.00 a month.......

Just need Telewest cable connection in the house......makes better economical sense if you have their cable TV & two phone lines as well.......

I've been with ntl (cable broadband) for a year now. I've just uprated to their 600k service at 24.99 a month.

They're a pain in the arse as far as customer service goes but it all seems to work OK.

If you can get cable it's worth exploring how much they charge.

Cheers

I have not been able to send money to the BB due to
A - no one from the BB doing this
B - I cannot track who has been referred by me - plusnet may change this.

So in the meantime I suggest people who like Jon ask him for his userid when signing up - ask Jon for this via PM I guess. And if anyone wishes to do me a favour then use "mccreery".
The service is just fantastic. I know this as I think it and 5 people I have referred say so.

I go along with Dutch on Telewest Broadband - very good service. Also take their land line connection at £25.00 per month unlimited calls! Wife is never off the 'phone which I think is pretty good - saves her talking to me ;-)
:beerjug:

With Telewest, you only get a 1 meg line for £35 per month...or £30 if you subscribe to their other services...

2 meg will be here sooner than you think tho'....

I paid £25.00 for my 1mb connection & a few weeks ago was offered a 'free' trial of the 2mb service, which has now expired....I now pay £35.00 a month for a 2mb broadband service, which is precisely what I said before......:D
