Broken ADV tank fuelpump assembly bolt

Tank I got came with a one fuelpump assembly mount bolt broken. See the pics below.

I haven't tryed to see if it holds fuel w/o leaks when I fix it leaving one bolt unfixed, but I rather have all the bolts available...

So what do you reckon is the best way to fix that one particual broken bolt?

I had a thought of drilling the old bolt out, puting a new one in from inside the tank and sealing with EPOXY? Any other ideas?

Same thing happened to me. I looked into it and the general consensus of opinion was not to worry about it so I tightened up the remaining nuts and put a bead of silicon round the fuel pump plate and where the bolt 'stump' fitted through the fuel pump mounting plate.

Hasn't leaked in over 20k+ miles.

If you do want to get it sorted then if memory serves I believe that MikeO had a bolt welded in on his old GSA tank in the US (might be worth doing a search on ADVrider).
 
Why is it that particular bolt that goes?:confused: Mine came like that too. Actually, I stand corrected, mine is the one on the very bottom of tank. It's being repaired as we speak and yes silicone does work but surely it will react with the petrol if not used judiciously?
 
Silicone gets weird with petrol, it turns into something like frogspawn that can swim through fuel filters but not through jets, in this application it would be okay if you kept it on the outside and did not use too much.

Yes just drill the bolt out and I cant see any adder option:cool:
 
No Probs..

I managed to snap one on my 1100 about four years back. I just made sure I tighened the others up evenly in an opposed pattern, and haven't had any leaks in 25-30 odd k. Didn't use any kind of sealer, just the 'O' ring.

Now that is a very good idea :blast

Think I'll see about fitting my spare tank whilst I do that repair on my current tank.

did something very similar, but gave the tank away before i tried it.

if anyone has a black 1150 tank with sparkley bits in the paint, does it leak? :D
 
Left the one bolt skipped and tightened the others. Had my first longer ride in this season yesterday and the tank doesn't seem to leak. :thumb2
 
Had just the same,the upper bolt broken(bad construction of BMW, tankbolts are in the full spray of rain when you drive!!!)
So I thigten the other bolts very carrefuly,and it does not leak for about more than 7.000KM(cross my fingers;))
Next time that I gonna put an othet feul filter,I drill it out and put another bolt in it and seal it with a rubber O ring.
