Broken Bracket- preload dial

So I took the rain cover off my 10 month old F650 Gs this morning and the pre-load adjuster knob was just hanging off the bike, the bracket having broken at some time in the past day- I would have noticed it when I started the ride the day before- maybe not at the end of the ride

The bike has not been dropped, and although it has had to deal with some rough roads, there has been nothing more challenging than a potholed street and a gravelled track.

Does anyone there have a clue why this could have happened?

Hi Mikee, Potholes,gravelly roads,in Romania? surley not
wrote my vfr off over there when i went down a pothole the size of wales!
The roads seemed rough enough to inflict some sort of damage if used frequently.Hoped a GS would be up to it though.Any warranty apply?

10mnth old should be under a warranty shouldn't it?

I'm on my second bracket. The first was replaced under warranty but the second one cracked within a few months. I have strengthened and welded it and has been fine for a year now. It cracks where it was bent / formed at the factory.

I suspect that if most people looked very carefully they would fing a hairline crack on their bracket.
