Whilst replacing a number of bolts on my 1150GS, I managed to brake off one of the six bolts fixing the pipe to the frame by the rear footrest:mad:  . As four of the remaining five are also extremely tight, I won't even try to have a go at them until I a) worked out how to get the knackered bit out of the thread and b) what to do to get the others out safely.

Can anyone give me some advice on both a) and b), please. And before you start sniggering, I was v careful, but the bolt I broke off just snapped as if it didn't like me even looking at it ...

Oh no! bolt sheared!!

I had six or seven bolts seized or sheared on my Funduro, I went about it this way!

1. spray liberally with plenty of loos-ol or equivelent and leave

2. tap bolt heads with a hammer or punch to 'crack' the seize

3. tighten slightly before trying to slacken

4. drill out the seized bolt very carefully and patiently, try to punch mark the center of the bolt to stop the drill bit going off to one side, using two or three different drill bits eventually the seized stud disintegrates or comes out in bits

5. If the bolt is sheared above the surface try to tap out using a small chisel

I've not had much success with easiouts and haven't used heat but usually some or all of the above have worked for me! Oh and good luck!!:D
