My speedo failed two weeks ago on my 1150 Adv and finally managed to get round to replacing the cable last night. However, the speedo still doesn't work! Does anyone have an idea as to what may be causing the problem? The cable fitted all okay so am at a bit of a loss.

Thanks.

Have you tried disconnecting the cable from the speedo and spinning the wheel,if the cable inner turns the speedo head must be U/s . If it doesn't it must be the speedo drive unit (either the internal gears are broken or it is not properly engaged on the wheel

Changed mine last weekend....make sure the bottom end is located in the drive thingy slot......it could miss and just spin :nenau

I'd try undoing the bottom end of the cable as well, then spin the front wheel to make sure the drive is working for the speedo take off....if it's not, replace it with a 3.0 ratio one from an RT rather than te innacurate 2.0 ratio as fitted originally....they're £35 IIRC from a dealer.

If the bottom drive is spinning, stick a drill on the end of the bottom of the cable and spin it up to make sure the speedo itself is working....at leastyou'll then know where the problem is :)

Er....exactly what Neil said in fact :blush
