BRUSHGUARDS FOR DRZ400 S

I need to put some brushguards on my DRZ400S and don't really want to spend £80+ on Barkbusters if I can help it. Been looking at some Venon guards online that have an aluminium bar running through so look like they're up to the job - but only £25 complete. Anyone used these, or could recommend other types?

Chainspeed, Adventure Spec etc - £25+ for fixing kit, £46+ for the guards, plus postage...So maybe £75 all in.

Agreed they aren't cheap but they really are well made and strong with the alloy bar through the moulding, good colour match to the bike too.

A pleasant surprise was that there was no hassle fitting them to our DRZ400S either, all sorted in 20 minutes with no cutting, drilling or modifications other than removing the bar end weights

Total price including the fitting kit was £68.95, (+ £6.95 shipping) but I think they're worth it!

Cheers Al, But I ordered some Barkbusters today - about £77 with postage so not much more than the Acerbis ones. My bike did have brushguards fitted before I bought it (to Renthal Bars) so I'm hoping I'll just need to cut the end of the grips off to reveal the bar ends. There are no weights fitted to the bars.

Not knocking you as everything has two sides. But if you are going for metal strengthening becuase of its protection if you hit something then if you have hit it that hard your going to be off any way.

Its said that metal ones are not recomended by government agencies as your porkies can get trapped behind them and crushed/trapped.

I am perfectly happy with the OEM ones. Main problem I have is creepers pulling the levers as you wind your way through them(Brake on is a pian when you don't expect it). Metal supports not needed for that. Depends on the use I suppose. Suzuki ones do look right tho. Maybe thats where I am going.

Been using metal braced ones for 20 years without a hitch and if you go down, just let go & bail out !

Saves the levers/clamps everytime

Works ok on the XR & XChallenge

No handguards on my Trials bike for obvious reasons, it bloody hurts riding through woods sections (no gloves either)

So on an Enduro bike I'd always have metal reinforced ones

I run 4 x DRz 400 E's and wasted a lot of money on Acerbis Rally Pro handguards. The Barkbuster units are far superior, and the mounting kit is really neat.
Although the Acerbis units on my bikes weren't totally broken, I took them all off, and replaced them with the Barkbusters.
I don't understand any argument that says, hand guards with metal running through them are dangerous. I think this is totally wrong.

I don't think it's right either. But the tougher you make any sort of guard, the more you risk transferring the problem somewhere else. For example, the OR DR-Z bars are made of cheese. If you put really tough guards on, then you just end up bending more bars. [DAMHIK]

But dangerous? No.

My Barkbusters arrived today and fitting them was a doddle. I'm hoping I don't have an off that's bad enough to bend the aluminium bars! If I do, then other bits of me are probably going to hurt as much as my squashed hands

As I mentioned before, I run 4 DRZ's for our guided off road trail tour company. The Barkbusters will go before any decent bars in my experience. The handguards can take a lot of stick though.
